I am new to this but I have a TND 720. Someone told me that it would give me weather updates and traffic. Do I need a wifi connection to get these features or is there a subscription for it? Thanks.

    Wi-Fi or Hotspot.

Weather is available, but traffic will require a subscription. Note - Traffic feature has not been rolled out to the public yet.

    Thanks,

Thanks Mark. Any idea on the subscription cost and when traffic will be available? I run I-295 and I-95 from Jacksonville to Miami a LOT.... I am looking for any edge.

So, I tried this out and I was attempting to find a tire shop around me because my tire was busted. I was long away from a truck stop and I found a place. I opted for "shortest" route so I can get there safely without a busted tire. This thing took me up a steep hill which I had to be in low gear and had cops block traffic behind me and took me down tight streets with a no truck sign!

Prepare for more fun! Other than that its been good. It could not find a particular shipper because it said the address did not exist.

I changed the preference to fastest route instead of shortest so I don't get into unnessessary street issues.

Make sure its in truck mode and select "avoid small roads"...then enable shortest route....should work better for you.

Enabling shortest route on any GPS is risky if you're not careful...I've had PC Miler, Garmin, and now Rand McNally...the Garmin was terrible on shortest route, the PCM and RM are better though because the user has more control over the types of roads....PCM was best in this area, but RM is good.

I'd have to agree with that. Be very careful with shortest routing and make sure you back check it with another source. You are forcing the device into choosing shorter segments.... that can lead to issues. But not always. I keep the 520/720 in fastest routing and use the different road selections to alter routing. Seems to work better by doing that.

One other thing, the 520has the ability to compare two routes and Iam sure the 720 will be updated to this same functionality if it hasn't been already. Very nice feature. Use it if you got it.

Instead of giving me general information, post where you were, what street was posted No Trucks. Data Sets and truck restriction Data is not 100%, but as K7tkr had posted in another thread the data cannot be corrected if the map data companies don't know about it. A lot of times local cities and governments post these restrictions and the information does not go "uphill" to the state.

As far as going up a steep hill, Drivers encounter steep upgrades and downgrades all the time. Try going thru PA sometime.

The shipper, PM me the address and I will submit to the GIS department.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Is a marked Truck Route (by signs) but my 720 says.

Through Truck Routing is prohibited or not advised.
