I'm sitting here in British Columbia looking at truck porn ( the Truck Paper) and cannot believe the prices of used trucks in Australia. $80K + for 14 year old trucks! The exchange is within 4% right now so I'm wondering why trucks cost 4-5 times as much over there compared to here.

New trucks over here $320000 for big bonnet kenworth Mack plus extra options. Kenworth hold resale value well.

    A very nice Kenworth in the USA : $ 150, 000. Probably couldn't handle a roadtrain though.

I would tend to guess that the Aussie trucks are double framed, have at least 16k front ends w/ dual steering boxes and 46 or 52 rears in em. That kinda stuff aint cheap. Then there is the bigger displacement engines with bigger HP n the 2250 TQ 18 spd's...start adding it all up n of course its gonna be alot more then here. Yer tryin to compare an F150 to a F350...

Truck only have double frames and 52 rears when they are for heavy haulage. You can rate a truck to 110 tonnes with single frame and 46 rears all B double trucks only run 46 rears here. Truck prices here are high because we don't make engines, transmissions, diffs or most of the cabs they are all made overseas and imported. We are such a small market here we only export to New Zealand and New Guinea this means the volume are low so it makes it expensive to produce vehicles here and wages are high here as well. Cost of living is also high here as well this is why trucks start somewhere around $200000 and go up from there

    Ruthless and bzinger Thank this.

Yep sure are expensive that's for sure it'd be purely because all trucks are imported from the USA , Europe and Japan was wondering where it would be easier to go to the US buy a pre - owned truck and resell it over here the only thing is its got to be converted to Right hand drive.

Higher pay rate and cost of living. the minimum is around $18 hr average wage and a heavy combination driver ( cdl ) min hourly wage is $24,74 an hour thats bottom of the barrel wage, I think if you do a comparison in the cost between both countries you will see why they cost so much.
And why they are cheaper here
