quick question for any trucker that run with Prime: once i get my license in NC, would it be wise to just go ahead and apply to prime or should i go to a local tech college that *cough* Werner cough* suggested for me to attend to. Please advise me on this matter because im ready to recharge my life again.

I'd just go ahead and apply to Prime. No cost to you if you stay a year after being solo-qualified. Anything Werner suggests should be viewed with the same suspicion that you reserve for green milk.

I've received several PMs regarding the letter my doctor wrote regarding my past medication that the
Prime doctor accepted. I was digging through my papers, and found my copy of it. It is word for word what my doctor wrote; only the personal information was changed.

It was written on office letterhead.

    To Whom It May Concern:

I saw and examined Jane in the office today - April 29, 2013. She was prescribed ibuprofen for elbow pain in February 2013 and took the medication as directed for 7 days. I dispensed 50 pills with directions to take 2 tablets every six hours as needed for elbow pain. She has not used the medication since the end of February and is stable without the medication at this time.

    Sincerely,

No, it wasn't ibuprofen, or elbow pain...

If you are on *any* medication that *might* be prohibited for driving a commercial vehicle (and pretty much every prescription pain reliever or muscle relaxant fits into this category), contact your recruiter and have them find out for certain if Prime allows it. If not, you will NOT clear orientation until you have been off of that medication for a minimum of 30 days. Better to wait it out at home up front than after two bus rides; one of which you'll have to pay for.

I hope this copy of my "medical letter" helps.

Orientation is unpaid. He won't start getting a paycheck until he is attached to a truck.

At the most maybe $50 bucks if he really needs it. If he does, suggest groceries and not truck stop food. My dispatcher only gave me $50 when I told her I needed to buy groceries. She almost wasn't going to. Advances are great when you need them, but can also dig you a hole. If you're not careful, you won't have much of a check to pay send home to pay bills.

    No pay for orientation.

I wouldn't count on an much of an advance. He doesn't have a track record for which any FM will be comfortable approving an advance bigger than the one each load allows.

its long and boring, but there is a formula for determining an amount automatically allowed for advance on a each load.

Assuming he's coming in as a student driver:

Orientation is unpaid, as the others said. He will, however, be given a room and a meal card for three meals a day. For the meals, he gets a dollar amount toward the meal (which typically covers an entree, two sides, a drink, and a dessert). I ate well in the cafeteria, and typically had to kick in another 50 cents to a dollar.

Once he clears on Friday, he will get a $200 advance credited to his Comdata card. The easiest way to get cash out of it is to go up to Walmart and use it as a debit card. Walmart allows up to $100 to be taken out this way. BTW, the local Walmart is one of the big ones with a full grocery section.

He will get that $200 advance every Friday evening as long as he is in the PSD program.

He just received his CDLs from a local school here so I'm not sure what category he falls in.

He will be a C seat. First few weeks will be $500 or .10/mile (whichever is greater). Then he will move to B at $600 or .12/mile for the rest of his training miles.

no orientation pay. If he can squeeze in Smith System class before leaving with trainer there is some pay for that.

Pre authorized advances are on load per load basis which is usually 10-15 percent of what he'll be payed on a load. Anything above that automatic amount has to be set and approved by his FM.

so if his first load with his trainer is about 1k miles (example) he'll probably be able to get a $10-20 advance automatically available. They will only take it from his pay if he takes it from the card. Next load rolls around, that advance amount does not aggregate.... So if its another 1k mile load he'll have $10-20 on his card and not $20-40 if he didn't take the advance on the previous load.

How does he take it. To keep charges and fees down, I suggest he does it when he fuels. An option will display while he fuels that asks if he wants a cash advance, and the amount available will be displayed.

with each load assignment he can call the cards automated number and find out his advance amount.

Is Prime firm on you getting 80,000 training miles before giving you your own truck? Or if your trainer says you are ready say at 60,000 will they let you go alone?
