The lowest load I've ever seen posted was a load of hay from ND to IN $765 for 850 miles, cutting brokers out of all my outbound freight (except for a very few exceptions) was the best thing I've ever done, as for USHIP on ITS I just won't look at their loads. Rates are as low as they are because someone made them that way.
Maverick, Boyd, TMC, Western Express aren't out here pulling very many loads off a load board, so you can't blame them for cheap rates.
Cheap rates can be blamed on "well it takes me home" well where does most of the population in the US live? East of the Mississippi. No wonder freight is dumb from Cali back east and why do people say "well it covers my fuel" I didn't know we were out here working for fuel money. Everyone always says "I never haul cheap freight" well when I pass you and you've got a load of no tarp lumber on. You're walking a thin line. We are our own worst enemy us small independent guys are killing ourselves, were letting ourselves get pushed around, too many guys see $2/mi and jump at it. Well $2/mi doesn't mean jack if its a 10 mile run
Too many of us wanna do it the easy way. No tarp drive on 1 stop machinery for $1.50 turn a load down cuz the rates stupid not because it has to be tarped, turn a load down because the rate is low not because you're too lazy and dumb to figure out how to run anything with multiple drops
im sick of hearing everyone blame someone else
Nobody will be successful by letting someone (Brokers) do 1/2 the work
Just my opinionpassingthru69, jxu417, MJ1657 and 3 others Thank this. -
to call I'm always gone. I've given up recommending someone else then I wind up with no customer cause others will always cut your back out for a few cents. I don't mind a broker making a fair amount but seems like they want to move one load a day and that's it so they have to make it in one deal.
Being a small carrier has it's drawbacks and with insurance cost and csa it really isn't benificial to have more trucks running less you have like 10 and up.
Would you haul a cheap load if it delivered like 25 miles form your house? -
CHR had one yesterday paying 3100 on 1750 miles. no laredo for me. -

Most of our outbound freight has been directly from a shipper with no broker involved. Its great but you have to bust your ### to make sure you keep them happy.
Its easy to tell a broker no I can't get that done but its not easy to tell that to a direct customer. We do everything possible to not have to say no.Cluck Cluck and MNdriver Thank this. -
I spent two days calling on loads out of York,pa must of called on 125 loads everything is cheap or going northeast. I've been asked what I would need and all my answers have been over $2/mi most say ok thank you and hang up. In the end looks like in the end I'm hauling out at $1.80/mi
it's hard making all these calls between 7-5 when you should be driving but instead I'm parked up making calls at the truck stop. I told one Friday not to ever call me again offered me a tarp load 48,000lbs 385 miles for $350... -
I normally take a cheap load 2 oh to get back rolling when im in the pa area, or run empty to wv to a direct ship customer
