Wow, I'm almost ashamed to say I drive a Volvo. Nah, on second thought I Drive A Volvo! In all seriousness though, before I was put into an old '06 Volvo the first time I would have never driven ANYTHING except a Pete or KW. In fact when I first went from a 379 to a T-600 I was embarrassed but as time went along I began to like it except for the step down into the bunk. I spent 14+ years in extended hood 379's and as far as I was concerned they were the only truck on the road.
Jump ahead a few years and when I came to work where I'm at now the only truck they had empty the day I started was an '06 Swedish Meatball with 800,000 miles on it. I didn't have a choice if I wanted the job so I moved in. After just the first trip I was offered a 1 year old Pete 386, I know not a 379/389 but the same cab/sleeper as a 379/389 and there was no way in hell I was going to move out of my Swedish Meatball townhouse into a Pete efficiency apartment.
I have never heard someone who hasn't driven a Meatball talk good about them and I rarely hear someone who has driven them talk bad. I'll keep my Swedish Meatball Volvo and when I have 3 or 4 friends over and we sit around the table playing cards I'll remember the old days of having to sit on the bed to eat my dinner. Then when it's time to roll I'll walk right up to the drivers seat without having to turn sideways and duck then I'll sit my regular coffee mug (not the travel kind with a lid, the kind you use sitting around the table playing cards) full of Starbucks on the floor next to my seat and take off down the road while the coffee stays put.
Never even seen the inside of a Star-Car so have no comment. The only things I hear against them are the cabs rusting out and heavy but again, no personal experience. -
All I've ever know was the Pete's and kw I drove western star one day and couldn't stand it though I will admit though that thing had a huge cab even though she had a coffin bunk in order to touch the passenger I would of needed a big friggin stick lol my beef though interior looked very cheap rode like. Brick #### house shifter was in the wrong place if I remember right hated the mirrors

fortycalglock and Cluck Cluck Thank this. -
Peterbilt quit making trucks in 1987 with the demise of the 359. KW lost it when they introduced the T600. Freight liner lost theirs when they put away theFLD. And Volvo never started the race
BigJls1 Thanks this. -

Having owned a 94 FLD and now an 05 Columbia, both purchased new, I have to say the Columbia has been the better truck. But to me a truck is nothing more than a cash register.
And the Mercedes has outperformed both Series 60s I've owned. Combined. -
Seriously the Volvo's we get here are more the Euro/Australian spec just a bit stronger.
Head and shoulders better then the last Petes sold here.
I have to take a closer look at one next time Im in the US because they were like a bag of bolts the ones we got here. -
