I was always told when running local to log when crossing state line so I was under assumption that it was dot regulation but that must have been company rule. That is what I get for assuming.

You need to be aware this is also 100 AIR-mile radius as well. Not just 100 miles out and back.
If they are requiring you to log state-lines, then it's likely for IFTA and not for logging purposes. Something entirely different. -
I used to run Houston tx to lake Charles LA and didn't have to log. When i went to baton rouge or new Orleans i did

There is a book that only has the vehicle inspection in it that I use all the time.

I worked in Portland, OR for a year as a city driver. Routinely I would get sent across the bridge into Vancouver, WA. to peddle. Wasn't an issue. -
