looking to make a move over to tankers, got about 13yrs dry van exp, but only about 16 months of that recent, just came back after 15 yr doing other things
I have my hazmat approvel letter just need to take the tests for that and tankers.
Spotless driving record for the last 18 or so yrs.
Now where I live there are at least 8-10 larger tanker companies.
    Superior.
    Quality Carriers.
    Highway transport.
    Hennif(sp).
    Dillion.
    Groendyke.
    Foodliner.
    Bulk transit.
    Schneider.-$7500 sign on bonus
And several more I can't think of right now most of these are 10-30 min. from the house.
Just looking to make ONE MOVE to a place I can train with and finish out my 20 or so years till I retire.

Any advice would be great, Give me the good the bad and the ugly.

Out of the list you got there Groendyke would be your best to work for in the tanker business. I hear a lot of good things about them if you can get on with them. Schneider isn't bad either on the tank side from what I hear too from others. I pulled tankers for prime inc. and like it a lot. They do food grade tankers. I loved tankers more than a box. I am looking to go back to tankers myself if I can. Good luck driver.

Can't go wrong with Superior. I started here out of school and don't intend to leave unless something insanely better falls into my lap.

Wow, just pick one I don't think you could go wrong as you live in a great area. I drive for Schneider myself but all of those companies are good.

Quality Carriers has affiliate owned terminals so pay and benefits vary from terminal to terminal . You need info from drivers at the terminal you'd be applying at . You'd be employed by that affiliate owner , not QC . One big negative to that is higher health insurance premiums working for a small employer .
QC also has e-logs closely reviewed by the corporate safety office .

You may also want to check trimac. When I was washing trailers a trimac driver from Chicago came in. He said they were union at his terminal and their hourly rate was around $30. Not sure how true that was or if they still have a terminal up there, but it might be worth checking.

Thanks all, What I'm finding out is its hard to find a job when you have a job, Getting home on Sat. morning and leaving out early mon. Used my vacation already this year, Thinking about taking a local job running intermodal on the night shift, to free up time to search and interview on days.

I'll be hanging out in the tanker section and educating myself with lots of reading.

    Thanks again All

I hear great things about Superior Carriers. I'm going with QC out of Neville Island for now. See how things go after a while. Might be an odd deal, but I'll be home all the time.

Tomorrow is my second day of training with Schneider's tanker division. You might want to check on how long that sign on bonus is good for. I know the position I got, you had to start before June 30 to get the bonus.
