I start by saying I have no experience over the road got my CDL in FEB went to Schneider Tanks in march went through the training and whatnot but on the final test 46 or so days later I ran a red light with an instructor in the truck no tickets were given but they sent home after that. 3 days later I was on a bus to Little Rock AR for Maverick And a week or so of Flat-bed regulations talk and hearing what seemed like hundreds of times Maverick will distance itself from you. I bounced realizing that this was BullS$%. So I went to Florida's CTL got through that whole week and was back at home in Charlotte,NC Saturday morning. Now here is the problem I know im hired and all but every time I call my terminal manager in ATL he tells me he is working on something but could be next week! Just very odd and financially a nightmare.
    Any thoughts?

Yup. Keep looking. Quite honestly, you may not be cut out for this. You show up with CDL in hand, get 46 days of company training and you blow a red light on your final test? Plain and simple, you weren't paying attention. There's no excuse for that.

I wouldn't fool around with a company that hires me and then doesn't have any work. What the terminal manager means by "he is working on something", means they're working on a potential new customer. They're trying to get some drivers lined up in case the deal goes through. Jump on something now to get some OTR experience and in about 6 months or better, then move on to a good company like Melton Truck Lines or Cypress Truck Line. For now though, contact Benny Whitehead Trucking, Martin Enterprises of the Carolinas, Carolina Cargo, Buel Inc., Tankstar, Paschall Truck Lines, and get to work before you waste time letting your CDL sit idle. I would start the online applications right now and then pick a company out of the job offers you will get.

I'm usually right with you, but no need to bother with Melton. With three companies since Feb they won't waste their time with training.

It could be that they just don't have a truck there to put you in yet. I waited a couple of weeks while the shop did an inframe on my first truck. They had me working local though in a day cab. Can't do that with you in Charlotte and your terminal in Atlanta.

CTL is a crappy ComCar company you don't want them. Only thing worse than their equipment is their pay. Most guys that work there can't get in with good companies or are retired and are just looking for something on the side.

Personally, I think you made a mistake walking out on Maverick. I've heard nothing but great things about them from drivers I've talked to. They pay good and treat their drivers very well from what I've been told. They were one of my top prospects when I graduated school, but in the end I just couldn't get past their automatic trucks.

From this wannabee's POV, that seems a bit harsh. There may have been some other issues with OP's driving or something. Driving too fast in the first place, not reacting quickly enough when the light changed to yellow.... who knows.

Probably not as "bonehead," as doing something on your CDL road test that creates an automatic fail (like RR crossing issue).

    IMHO
