trying to get hired with a recent misdemeanor...

first and foremost, make sure you have a written court order that allows you to travel within the lower 48, or wherever your company may take you. this is very important! secondly, sometimes, you may just have to provide probation with a faxed itinerary of your dispatch and route to make them happy.. this way they have a way to get in touch with you and know where you are at all times.

finally, most companies have a list of disqualifying offenses that will give you a good idea if it is even worthwhile applying to them...the safety dept. and recruiting team typically can tell you this over the phone,, if you dont hear back, its not good! take the time, and do some research!

Companies are so desperate to fill the driver's seat that they might overlook the larceny charge, so long as this was your only prior. If they're vindictive against you, start looking at flatbed companies, and hauling sand and gravel. These 2 areas of the trucking industry are usually more forgiving on newbies with colorful past. As a driver pulling a box or reefer trailer, you'll be entrusted with thousands of $$ in merchandise. There had been past cases (and still is today) of drivers stealing the freight, and selling them over the CB radio to make some extra $$. With flatbeds, you're hauling products that require a forklift to handle, and not easily sold off at swap meets. Ditto for hauling sand and gravel.

 

apply to all you can. the school I went to told me if they need drivers bad they will give you a chance. we had a guy in my class that was recruited from prison into the tech school because of a new program that was really good. he was even the first one to get his cdl, after 5 went. he did get hired at a company. it might not be the best paying companies but he did get hired. and other companies told him to give them a call after a year or to and they would put him to work. so there is hope just tell them the truth don't hold anything back. take a copies of your dmv report and criminal background with you to orientation.
