The 105 still stands and is the same in Quebec also.
Your company is correct. Since you're under Canadian rules while in Canada you aren't breaking any U.S. rules. As soon as you get back to the States though, if you haven't satisfied the 10 hours off duty you will not be in compliance with the U.S. rules that would kick in as soon as you entered the U.S.

As for HOS: When you enter Canada, all you have to be is legal BY OUR RULES when you enter. When you are returning to the US, you would need to be legal under US rules. Also, ours cannot be done 8 first then 2 later - you must total at least 10 hours off before your next day can start. Works very well for buying fuel in the middle of the day and a shower and lunch. Night time just roll in and park. Don't forget to flag on your log when you are allowed entry into the other country. I have had inspections on both sides, if the inspector questions you for it, kindly remind him that you follow US rules while on US soil and Canadian rules while on Canadian soil. I have never even been questioned.
As for the dirt on trucks - that may have something to do with say used farm equipment being brought in FOR USE in Canada. I have heard they will inspect for dirt contamination for bugs and give you a hard time for that ..... However, if it is "scrap metal" being brought in, they don't require it. This is only what I have heard, I have no direct experience.scottied67 Thanks this. -
What if say I come across north with only half an hour of legal U S drive time but now I have 1.5 legal Canadian drive time and I use it. OK fine and dandy right??
Some several days later an a coop in nowhere specific U S sees my logs and declares violation! -
He would have no legal right to cite you for a violation. After all, you did not violate any of his rules while on his soil. You should have no problems at all. If you were legal in Canada, say 12 hours driving and 12.5 on duty so far for the day, and cross into the US, he could get you right at the line for being over the 11 hours driving.scottied67 Thanks this. -
I recently went thru two level 2s in Minesota. Both times my logs showed a 36 hr reset followed by two 13hr days driving with proper 10 hr breaks in Canada. I had 8 hrs driving in the Us with no stops after the border for a total of 9hrsODD and 10 hrs OD. Both inspections were clean. They basically wanted to know that I was within my 70, had a proper reset and that I was following the 11/14 in the US.

If you run by US rules with a 36 hour restart in Canada you won't have any problems.

8 hours off duty gives you a fresh 13/14/16 to work with. The key to understanding our HOS is to separate the day from the work shift. -
at the beginning someone said we run 70/7 here in Canada you can do that and always be safe with US hos but we run 70/6 we start getting hours back a day before you guys do in the states which is awesome. Our rules are hands down way more driver friendly
-
We do run 70/7. Or 120/14 though I don't that's very common. Not sure where you get the 70/6 from but I've never heard of it. When calculating the 70/7 you subtract the total of the last 6 days from 70 to determine what's available on the 7th day.
