Yes, you service the stores within the 'region' of your DC. I'm glad I applied. I prefer the regional type driving over OTR so it works for me. I too worked for a contract carrier (JB Hunt) running grocery out of Johnstown NY and loved it. We too lost the contract (shortly after I transferred to intermodal). Looking forward to doing this again but this time AS a Walmart driver.

Thanks. Hey, what company did you run the Walmart loads for?

Covenant Transport. I felt I was running more for Wal-Mart than for my company. My load planner used to work in her home in Bentonville, AR and she was AWESOME!! I would get 2 or 3 preplans in advance so it was very easy to plan my weeks. Would pick-up at shippers and deliver ASAP at Wal-Mart DCs. All deliveries were drop & hook with no appointments. My company and Wal-Mart would keep us constantly busy. I could make more than 3000 miles per week and reset on weekends. Because I like to run hard, my load planner would find me loads to west coast so I would not be only east of Mississippi. Sometimes, I would do store loads, pallet loads, claims, etc... Those happened when my load planner didn't have anything for a day or two and I would have to check in at the Wal-Mart private fleet dispatch office and offer help. There were other times when I kept running out of one DC for over a week and being dispatched by Wal-Mart dispatchers. Didn't even talk to my company's dispatcher... :biggrin_2559: I made very little money on those store loads, very little... and a lot of work, labor, paperwork, phone calls, very time consuming... working with two different systems at same time (my company and Wal-Mart) but I still enjoyed working in that Wal-Mart account...

Being treated well, and with respect, can go a long way to making up for a difference in pay.

If I was making the same I was with my X company, while working for Walmart, I would be tickled silly. Instead, I am making quite a bit more, even in my first year.

Unless you work here, you really don't understand. I thought my X job was a pretty good truck driving job (took great care of the equipment and I got paid decently, although I worked very hard for it). Boy was I wrong.

You know I was the same way with my x carrier. It was a ok job with good equipment. They just wouldn't pay more for drivers that go above and beyond. They couldn't even give me a lousy safety bonus because I was local. Either way, I will never go back to a general freight company again. I really enjoy the respect, easy going flow here. Everyone I have meet has been helpful and kind to me and treat me as a equal. Just today I had to call the ROC and give up my last move because of traffic being so bad in Houston today. "Not a probleam and we appreciate you calling and letting us know." I had less than 6hrs to my day at that point. Tomorrow is another day and ill be well rested and ready to go!

Hi, can one of you guys tell me what happens after you fill out the aplication on line and receive a confirmation? Like whats the time line for actually getting a call for an interview? How many interviews do you go through? Also, there are 2 or 3 DC's near me that are hiring, can I apply to all of those or only to one DC? Thanks for any help

It depends on the DC. It took over a month for me to hear. Your first interview is the personal interview, which, if you pass, you then do the pre trip inspection and then the driving test...... all the same day. If you get called back for a second interview, that is the job offer.

As far as the multiple DC thing goes, I don't know. All applications are processed in Bentonville, so I don't know how it works if you apply to multiple DC's. Maybe someone who has experience in this can chime in.

You can apply to any DC you wish. If you get called for an interview at one, you must continue the process all the way through with that one DC. If you wanted to go to a second one, you would have to start all over again. Best advice is apply, wait for the call and go through the process. If you want to be closer to home, after a year with the company, you can put in for a transfer.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll keep my fingers crossed. I guess the main thing is to secure the job, no matter which DC then go from there. Thanks again
