You can always pay for your own repairs.

And the real Sammons emerges for all to see!! I do pay for my own repairs, and %12 interest on top of it to the tune of $5,071.47 year to date, but you don't make money on trucks right. My repairs are paid from MY TRUCK REVENUE, $90,864.32 year to date, that's after your %25 cut. Last time I checked $77,202.36 is less than my truck revenue which means I'm to the plus. But it's good you came on a open forum and outed yourself and confirmed what your buddy snowwy was denying. I'll be following my contract when it comes to maintenance from now on, so read up on it, I have.

BTW Sammonsrecruiter I'm not the only one that thinks you have issues with maintenance, so doesn't DOT, we're at %81. Out of all the categories your company is judged on, it's the worst by far. :biggrin_2551:

    and that's sammons fault.

cuz after all, it's the drivers that get pulled in. not the company. and some guys get inspected 15 times a month.

truckers have no one to blame for there company scores but themselves.

Most scales have no clue who a driver is, so it's the company that gets pulled in, and the driver gets inspected as a result. You think when you roll across a scale the scalemaster says "there's snowwy lets pull him in"? lol

If we are speaking %100 owner op I agree with you %100. Which is my reasoning behind my rant. I don't just jump in the truck and wait for stuff to break, although it does happen at times. I see Sammons side, and understand that a checkbook is not unlimited. This month alone, I replaced a compressor governor, several fittings that were leaking, a turbo cutoff valve, and I have to replace a ID light (purchased but needs install), not of which Sammons has heard about until here. Why, because I don't like jumping through hoops & driving up my balance, to get stuff done. If I call I may hear "take it in". I'll try again to explain, not to sway you, but to better explain my logic.

Example, we'll do drive tires; I blow a tire limp to shop 3 miles away. Knowing the condition of my tires (still legal but...), I go in and negotiate a price on a set of 8 tires roughly $2,800 OTD. Shop calls Sammons, I'm looped out, shop guy says Sammons says just do the back four at $1,900+tax. So $3,800+tax for the same 8 tires or $2,800, who's deal is better? Luckily on that deal, I dealt with the lady in tires/maintenance from Sammons, and got all 8 done. So, if someone said no because the tread depth was legal and I go up the road and blow another one, take out my fairing, and have to call road service, how much would I have saved? Keep in mind I'm in the truck everyday, so I know what may need replacing or not. Keeping that balance in mind, along with my revenue is what I will always do. Knowing I would be behind for the month, I book a load to more than cover the tires & load before the end of the month. It wasn't entered that way in the system, but in reality a rolling balance is a rolling balance.

Still with me? So the way our contract is, it differs from a fixed payment only in wording IMO. Take these numbers $6892.52/month after all expenses but not including maintenance, interest, pay-check. At 4 years & %12 a truck payment of $2133.70/month would apply. $4758.82/month left, less $2400/month for pay = $2358.82 for maintenance or $16511.74 left for maintenance to date. So as long as I'm under that $16511.74, which I am, I owe nothing to no one. My truck earnings are no different then a O/O's truck earnings, agree so far?

So what's my point? I'm getting there. Being in this program should be a benefit for those starting out. Someone is holding the money we earned from revenue. So what does this have to do with a safety score? Again, I'm getting there. I drove with a O/O cross country and he needed repairs, small ones. He went in got parts and together we fixed them in a relatively short period of time at the cost of parts. Now if I needed stuff done which on this trip I did, to their trailer, it's turns into a huge process and is more times than not, more expensive. Me and the O/O were talking about the score and I explained the process for a L/O. On this trip he got to see it in action, and he as well understood why some L/O's IMO, have chosen skip the pain of the process and keep rolling, which leads to failed inspections.

trucks get pulled in becuase the company has a high score.

again, it's the drivers that got the company a high score to begin with.

AND, as a driver who spent the last 2 years with 2 companies that were MAXED out on there scores. all my FEW inspections i got were done by the highway patrol. NOT the scales.

so, if our score is high. and the last 2 companies were even higher. how come i roll right on through. while everyone else gets stopped????

the scales see a dirty truck, a cluttered dash, no seatbelt, or whatever,
they see something that gives them a reason to pull the truck in.

don't give them a reason to stop you. and scores will go down.
i wear my seatbelt, i keep my truck clean and organized. and no one is stopping me.

again, it all comes down to the driver.

there are drivers that are getting inspected 15 times a month. and put OOS. i get inspected once every 4 months.
i won't be racking up any bonuses but i don't really care. all i care about is NOT getting inspected. i've got a load to deliver. and hanging around BS'ING with the cops or scales. delays my delivery.
