International Trucks SUCK, for several reasons:
#1. Air Horn. A one inch square button, placed in the middle of several other buttons on the steering column. Not only is it impossible to find in the event of an emergency, but embarrassing (for myself, and dissappointing to the kids) when trying to show off for the kids who request a honk (thank you so much poindexter for screwing up a great thing).#2. Mirrors. For some reason or another the douche bags in corporatesaw fit to limit the power windows so as to prevent my turning them out enough to avoid blinding brights coming up from behind at night. Thanks screwballs.#3. Power Windows. Every time I hit the button to roll the window down, it sees fit to CONTINUE to roll down, forcing me to take a second look, rolling it back up to where I wanted it, rather thanstop when I let off of the button. Ridiculous . They better hope I dont get into an accident because of that stupid "feature".#4. Radio. No, lets not light up the radio at night. Lets just assume that by not lighting the radio, the victom (er, I mean the trucker) will just give up, rather than spend precious contration FEELING AROUND for the right button (while some douche bag blinds me from behind!!!)SCREW INTERNATIONAL! I will NEVER waste my money on a piece of junk like that!My advise? Get a Kenworth!!John. Future Owner Operator.

    1. Many drivers like the push button air horn instead of the old cable style. It's much safer, IMO. I hated having to reach up to try to use the horn when my hands needed to be on or near the wheel.
    2. Turn the mirror up or down instead of out if it doesn't have the range.
    3. Most cars today have the same auto-down feature. You have to tap the button on the way down to get it where you want it to stop.
    4. Sounds like a settings issue. Read your manual. Our Internationals don't have this problem. Could be a faulty radio or loose wire, too.

Yeah, sure. A one inch square button (2009) offset somewhere between the Radio buttons, the Marker Int, and the engine brake. Yeah, WAAAY better. WAAY safer. What where they thinking putting a huge cable away from everything else to grab onto.

Nnnnnnno thanks. Im far from sold on a POS International put together (lately) by Poindexter. Besides, this truck has been in the shop twice this month, and only 480XXX miles? First my AC breaks, then two weeks later its overheating. And (as if that wasnt enough), dude, my spot mirror FELL OFF of the truck. Like, just freaking fell off while driving normally down the road! If I wasnt already seriously annoyed by the breakdowns and the trucks own inconveniences, it might have been a little humorous.

    Never buy an International.

As far as the radio though, i did a little research. I think the company that I work for added this wonderful "safety feature to some of their trucks as a trial test or something. The radios lights stay on until the truck goes into gear, then its lights shut off (only the radio, interestingly enough). Anyway, its a bs concept. They cant leave well enough alone.

What you said here can apply to any number of brand new Volvos , Freightliners, Petes, or Internationals that I've had in my fleets. It doesn't really matter what you drive. All trucks will have issues. I don't know of anything that makes it more than 100k miles without some kind of service issue other than a PM. Quite honestly, while most people LOVE Peterbilts, they're the worst truck I've ever had. They cost me double in maintenance what my other trucks did. Great ride, crappy truck. But I attribute that mostly to the garbage engine they were running. Those things burned and leaked more oil than anything I've ever seen.

I'm contemplating buying a pre 1994 truck and getting one more year out of my current contract hauling produce outta Cali then looking for something else to do with my 2005 w900. A new truck is more commitment than I really want or need. There's a couple of old cab overs for sale around Manitoba that could probably make it for a year running down to Cali.

Well, I know some of you will think its childish, but I have to draw the line somewhere. I wouldn't consider buying a new truck unless it had a cable for the air horn. Im old fashioned and i like the feel of it. Simple. And detroit or cummins motor (not maxxforce. From what I've been reading, they're a nightmare). I think they stopped making maxxforce anyway, didn't they? If you really want to know what's what, listen to the tow truck drivers. If they're honest, they'll TELL you what they tow the most, in any given year, so you know where the problems/lemons are coming from.

Any chance you could provide some pictures of where everything is located on the ISX cummins?
