Here in CA if a cop orders you to do something and you do not comply you can be cited for that. I wonder if legally the local cops order trumps the DOT?

Yeah, it was. Running out of hours at a shipper boils down to bad trip planning, and poor training because your lack of knowledge on the regs. Depending on how long the OP was there, he could have worked on a 8-2 split while sitting. You NEVER log your entire time there on line 4.

If a customer does not allow parking, you will be cited for trespassing. DOT regs won't triumph trespassing.

its an unfortunate situation to be stuck in but your only option was to leave to customer before you were out of hours and go to a safehaven for your 10.

Never give in to someone whose weapon is a roll of quarters to call the rural cops. Tell them to f off and close your door. Not a #### thing he can do

This isnt bad trip planning if u show up with 5hrs left on 14 and they take 6hrs to load thats just crappy shippers cant blame that on a driver when appointment is 1pm u arrive at 12:30pm and not loaded until 6:30pm how is this a drivers fault it only takes 30min to load a trailer we all know this I deliver to walmsrt stores they us manual pallet jacks and can do it in 30minutes, ya we all know u need usualy 2hrs to be loaded or unloaded but u never know when it might take 10hrs this is not a drivers fault falls on to shippers lazyness.

Tell Swift you dont need to log on line 4.all the time at a shipper they same differnet but I dont follow it.

Alot of company's do not allow the 8-2 split, So that idea went right out the door. Trip planning has nothing to do with this as you can only prepare for your end of the deal. The shippers need to be reprimanded by the Feds so this stops..

This has been discussed many times here. The best post is number 62 here. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...rum/201688-log-book-vs-100-mile-radius-7.html
If a shipper was taking too long to load or unload I'd tell them I would drop the trailer at the dock and bobtail out before my hours were up.

"Bad trip planning?" Seriously? You're saying it would have been more reasonable of me to stop driving after six hours after my delivery, lay over, miss my appointment time by 6+ hours, get loaded late and miss my second appointment time by god knows how long, with the distinct possibility of arriving after they closed and having to wait another day to get loaded, and returning home almost 24 hours behind schedule, thus missing my next dispatch time? You're saying that it is perfectly acceptable for a shipper to burn almost a third of a driver's day because they expect you to adhere to your appointment times when they can't adhere to theirs? It takes me 20min to get from this shipper to my layover location, and I would have had 2 hours to do so if things worked as they usually do. But in this plane of the universe I like to call "reality," sometimes things go a lot worse than any person can reasonably be expected to plan for.

Insinuating that this was a result on some failure to procure psychic powers upon entering the transportation industry on my part is insulting and totally unreasonable. Furthermore, I think it's just that sort of complacent attitude that makes shippers think this sort of behavior is okay. Problems in shipping? Just blame the driver, right?
