Pre amps can bring in alot of noise. They are best when nobody is close to you to help pull in the weak distant station. It's best to leave it off.

Think this thread mabey dead but never mind here goes, Ive used the first early version of the KL203p over the pond here in the UK which was red and as another poster mentioned had a jumper, brilliant little amp best Ive ever had, used it for about 5 years and it even kept on going after a antenna problem lifted the swr a tad high, sold it on and it is still going and being well abused by a local young homebased CBer who likes to stick his full Cobra 148gtl power into it? I replaced mine with the RM kl400 BIG MISTAKE! absolute load of rubbish and only lasted a few months, very unforgiving swr wise and a very dirty output on the scope (wish I had kept the trusty little old 203p) for those interested the old first red kl203p would work as far down as 14mHz at about 35W SSB with the jumper set for wide banded and the newer ones are listed to be either 18mHz or 20 mHz (depending on site) up to 30mHz without changing any jumpers, got to be one of the best value linears on the market today and combined with a little band pass filter made for the HF packer amp a great little HF amp to go with qrp rigs for any ham lads looking for something on the cheaper side.
If anybody notices a high swr jump compared to being barefoot when using this amp inside there is a little toriodial ring coil try adjusting the coil spacings as even as possible and this should help bring it down.

Not ever dead! Thanks crawler excellent review on a cool little box. I recently picked up a new blue kl203 I hope it is half as good as the red ones! I have owned a kl 60 & a red kl 203 and thought that they were really good small boxes! Make the hobby more enjoyable! Enjoy a pint for me on the other bank.!

Man! I want to get this amp. I'm a new trucker. Don't know diddly squat. I got a Cobra 29 ltd. It's already been peaked and tuned. Got a BS atenna on only the drivers side. Looking to buy 2 Monkey made spirals to mount to my freightliner. Just ordered an Acustic (I think that's what it was called lol) mic. Read 55 reviews and they all loved it. 5 star mic. Want to get this amp also. Driving OTR we all know a good radio that's actually turned on can be a lifesaver. Am I understanding what you all are saying about NOT having a peaked and tuned radio when installing this amp? Man I'm going to need some help. Got to make sure I get this system hooked up properly.

If you randomly choose a Shop to work on your radio to make it work with an amplifier there's a 99.9% chance the performance will be 80% reduced unless you choose the right technician
