MOST (but by no means, ALL), direct shippers won't even talk to you unless you've got 25+ trucks, so the point you make is meaningless for the average 1-truck operation... that's like saying "well, if you don't like the President, just go to the White House and tell him he's fired... then do the job yourself... quit whining"

Silly and unrealistic... The reason shippers rely on brokers is because THEY have access to 100's or 1000's of trucks and the shipper's have replaced THEIR outbound loads dept with brokers... that simple.

I'm on your side of the country. I have freight and it pays. I hauled my direct out, found a reload from a broker 78 miles from my drop and it pays very well.

Its not that tough you just have to work a little smarter at this game.

Our two truck operation is working with 4 direct shippers right now. You just have to do something to set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd.

With at risk of sounding ####y, here it goes. IF you haul a load for fuel money who's the idiot? It is certainly NOT the broker. They are in the same business as any owner. And that is to get as much as they can.If you think you are gonna be profitable running off of a loadboard again, who is the idiot. Loadboards are used to fill in the gap, get ya back to the house.etc etc etc. Not make a living. The sooner you all figure that out the better off most of you will be. And before the insults come this is how I started. But I sure as heck didn't take loads that didn't even cover fuel. How dumb you have to be?

And in my region I spend a majority of my time in the Dakotas. Not exactly your freight capital of the world.

Excuses won't get anyone anywhere. Negative attitudes and whining won't cut it.

come play around this side of the country. and tell me what's not to whine about. cuz the dakotas aren't the only lousy region.

nothing around here pays for the fuel. and to make matters worse. everything there is to haul goes out to the sticks where you'll be spending most of your day bouncing for the next load.

if all your dealing with, is the dakotas. consider yourself lucky. cuz the only good rates you get around here. are loads that come from the east.

99% of the crap around here. stays here. goes to the sticks. and don't pay for the fuel to get there. and the next load will be anywhere from 300 - 500 miles away.

75% of the loads around here. are wood and cars. sheetrock and steel. the only decent freight. would be to williston. and that town has loads coming from EVERYWHERE. and yet, nothing coming out for 1000 miles.

The question, in a general sense, was why OPs dislike brokers... I answered in a GENERAL sense as to why most OPs take offense... I never claimed to haul loads for fuel, so don't start putting words in MY mouth... if you don't want insults, don't start with the sanctimonious crappola... if YOU want to claim that Brokers would NEVER ask an OP to take a fuel only price, then you're an idiot... it happens ALL the time.. EXPECTING is not accepting... again, the question was WHY do OPs not like these parasites... Answer: They expect OPs to drive for nothing. I NEVER said I take those loads/rates... I simply gave the answer (one of many, but certainly in the top 3), as to WHY OPs tend to have a negative opinion of brokers... of course, the fact that WE can't stick together and spend all this time TRYING to be cyber-bullies, helps to foster THEIR attitude. Quit trying to be a big man by putting words in someone else's mouth and/or assuming facts not in evidence. de Oppresso Liber (look that up to see who you are wanting to piss off..
