Just witnessed another truck stop parking lot accident that didn't have to occur. J&R Schugel comes in way too fast into a bad parking lot to begin with (Casper, WY; Pilot) with two drivers in the truck. Guy never slows down just decides he is going to plow his way into a tight spot and crushes another truck on the blind side. Truck stops are not racing tracks. Take your time, get out and look to make sure you aren't about to hit someone/something when backing into a spot. Much easier to get out and take a look for 30 seconds than to be filling out accident reports and screwing up your driving record.

Do you think the people that need to hear it, are going to read this and just be like "oh right, should do that"? Just seems like a backwards way of just saying what you saw, but I may be wrong.

    Wipe your ### people :)

I remember when I was out with my trainer at Werner. I had drove 500 miles that day and just dropped a load at Home Depot Warehouse in GA. We did not have a pre-assigned so we went to a flying J for the rest of the night. When I pulled into the truck stop, there was one spot and to me it looked impossible to get into, so I passed up on it.

My trainer woke up because I was circling the lot looking for a spot. He said, that the spot I passed up I should try and get in, so I did. I got out and looked 4 times and just saw no way to get it in the spot. The trainer, told me to get out of drivers seat and he would do it. Lucky for me, I was smart enough to log out of the qualcomm and make him login as driving.

He backed part of the way in and realized that he could not do it either (never got out and looked). So then he just pulled out of the spot quickly to search for a new spot. The tail swing on the trailer took out the side of a brand new Volvo owner op truck. The Owner Op was the biggest guy I ever saw and he was pissed. I thought he was going to kill my trainer.

Sad part of this is that I had asked my trainer if he wanted me to get out and watch to make sure he did not hit something, he said "No, Getting out is for Rookies".

Been 2 years ago, but I did learn that if you are ever in doubt GOAL....

Had this happen to me on the company YARD, by another company driver, just 2 weeks ago and lost a weeks pay because my truck had to be repaired in the body shop. The spot wasn't even tight.

The driver was driving just 6 months. He told me "I've never hit anything before". I felt like saying "Not that you know of." Did he get out and look? No.

I contend that a driver is MOST DANGEROUS at about 4-6 months of driving. That's when you become confident, yet you still haven't polished your skills and you are getting careless with the fundamentals.
