After a seven month stint running local, I've went back over the road. I looked at over 3 dozen different OTR companies and only applied at four after determining what was important to me. I received offers from Heartland Express and Decker Truck Line. Decided on Decker Truck Line mainly because I can be dispatched out of the Missoula, MT Terminal and run mostly the West, which was a huge seller for me. Actually have been thinking of moving to Missoula for a couple of years.
Anyway, thought I'd start a thread to document my experiences and maybe some of the other Decker Drivers will join in as well.
I had Orientation at the Fort Dodge, IA Headquarters last Monday through Thursday. Pretty much the normal stuff although, I do like there mixture of old and new techniques such as using TripPak Envelopes instead of scanning. Its a little old school and keeps you on your toes to make sure you document and keep receipts. Assigned a '09 Peterbuilt 386 on Thursday and hit the road on Friday early morning.
Picked up a load in Worthington, MN and dropped it in Le Mars, IA early Saturday morning. Then picked up in Le Mars, IA and relayed that load in North Platte, NE Saturday afternoon. Grabbed relayed load and handed that off to another driver in Warrenton, MO Sunday morning. Now have a load to Louisville, KY for early tomorrow afternoon. Basically spent my first three days on the road rescuing loads.
Looking forward to get headed back to the West tomorrow, hopefully...

Good luck with everything! I am on the B-T INC side of Decker myself. Have not really came across many from the company on here buy I am sure there are more. If you are on Facebook search for the group Decker Truck Line, Inc. A lot more of the drivers are on there and are willing to answer questions and help if needed about some of our customers or directions etc..., or just to shoot the breeze!
notezbngrn71 and g.o.a.l Thank this. -
Looking forward to following your adventures.

Decker has a dedicated driver that runs out of my work in Fort Wayne, IN. Nice guy, waves every time.

Delivered fresh Washington State fruit at a grocery warehouse in Louisville today. Arrived 2.5 hours early and was in a door 20 minutes after arrival. However, they didn't unload one minute before my appointment time...LOL!
No back haul today though so I'm parked at the Pilot in Pendleton, KY for the night. Looks like I'm headed up to Columbus, OH to get loaded tomorrow.
I've had to Regen this truck twice and I did a forced Regen today. This is a pre-DEF truck so I hope that it doesn't become a problem. Other than that, everything is pretty smooth sailing in this Pete.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Ya I'd be curious how things go with Decker too. I drive for Van Wyk's, am happy there but a guy never knows...
