I thought it was a great write up you did, and still find my thanks in your original post, and as top line of mine.
My bad, was only sharing a story I thought was somewhat comical, not intended to be a rant. And got a laugh from what I thought was you playing "go'in postal"... I guess not. Maybe a better idea of what the job is like can be read between the lines.

I know. I'm non union and don't work 40 hours for just a smidgen less. Wally world couldn't get me over there if they offered me a limo ride to work and back

 

In Houston all the postal employees are minorities. It's called affirmative action. Not trying to sidetrack your thread. Just sayin.

How do you find what trucking jobs are available, and do thry take newly graduated drivers? Thanks.

 

I have to say when I was working for a contract company under the USPS, it gave me a real insight as to how the PO really works. There were a couple of drivers that were unhappy and hired on as USPS drivers. I had considered it at the time but with the way the PO is losing money and that you had to start out as PSE with no benefits, I couldn't go that route. I would have to say that the only real good thing about being a USPS employee is that you are a government employee. BTW I driver for Wal~mart now and thanks for the insight as a USPS driver.

I pulled for a contract company once. They make good money. They paid me over $20 plus every holiday. It was a 7 day a week job. In fact, they paid lots of guys 2 separate checks to stay within dot and union regulations. (making it look like 2 different employees) I never realized the mail moves 7 days a week, even holidays. We got paid holidays at the same hourly rate. It was like working double time. The union requires contact companies that don't pay benefits to make up the difference in the hourly rate. Something like $4 extra on the hour up to 40 hours then the pay drops after 40 hours. Many of the guys working were military retirees. They had full benefits or their wives worked for the school or at a local Walmart. One of our guys had 2 checks written out to him each week over $1,000 each and another guy at a similar contract outfit did the same. Probably many others but those guys were the ones I've talked to every night during my easy routine schedule. I did enjoy the extra 1.5 hour every night they gave me for lunch. I didn't like working 7 days a week and holidays, weekends and I needed benefits. It was a good job while I searched for something more my speed.
