I am a student in CDL school and I have been looking for future employment. I have been researching and researching and narrowed it down to Crete and Roehl as the companies I would like to work for. I find this to be a hard decision because both companies seems to be a good company. So I ask for help in making this decision because I feel it is a huge one to make. I have a pre-hire from Roehl. They haven't run my info yet. I was told that they are waiting for me to let them know if I wanted to go with them, but with the info on the app that everything looked good. I was honest and filled out the app to the best of my knowledge. Mean I did not lie.:biggrin_25519:

Let me touch on the negatives with each company so you can see where I am with my thought process.

With Roehl the say they don't have any spots on their southern or southeastern regional fleet. They have space on their 7-4,7-3 fleet. I prefer regional. Something to keep me close to home until I can get comfortable in my new carrier.

The thing with Crete is my school is not on their approve list. Even though they are trying to get on the approve list, it might not happen and I would have to go with another company anyway.

Compared side by side They are pretty much the same from what I read. Both pay great. I think I would make more with Crete, they start new drivers off with .39 cpm and Roehl do practical miles or .30 cpm new driver. I could be wrong here. Also from reading both are very demanding on logs and safety. A plus for me know matter how I look at it. I want to do things right from day one. Crete is about 45 min to an hour from my house compared to 25 to 30 min for Roehl.

I will say this, if I decide to go for the money and who could blame me I would go to Crete, but since I want to be at a company to the end of my carrier, I want to choose wisely. All opinions and advice are welcome and i thank you in advance.:biggrin_25519:

Just got finish talking to Crete and They said that they didn't have any openings on their regional run as well.:biggrin_25521: Also was told that new drivers start out with .34 cpm, but she was not sure about that.:biggrin_25523:

So now I dealing with national fleet with Crete and Roehl or 7/4-7/3 with Roehl.:biggrin_25513:

Well, if the hometime is important to you, and you can afford to work that little, I'd go with Roehl. But if you're itching to get out and drive, and you're not too too concernced with being home, I'd just dive in with Crete, get the extra money, and see where you stand later on down the road. See which company is bigger. I'd guess that the larger company will have a regional opening sooner, so that way you can just drive for now and try to get switched over to the regional fleet later.

Good luck with your decision and keep us updated with what you do.

Thanks for the comments guys, if I have to drive national then i will go to Crete. Assuming my school get placed on their approval list of schools. If not then i will try Roehl. I finish school at the end of this month and should have my CDL by first week in March.:yes2557: I will try to convince them that I want regional and tell them I will go to another company if not giving region(that would be a lie), but I will try. If it don't work then look for me to be going National. Both company said I would have to sign a waiting list for regional after I started. I think it is just a ploy to get new people to do OTR.:biggrin_25510: Anyway, I am ready to get out their and go.

This is the norm, 'cept starting out at .39CPM, that would be a surprise, new people just do not get that kind of an offer, that's like a year or so exp. drive55cat

Keep in mind the 7/4 7/3 Roehl program will have slip seating. If Crete will not approve your school I would run with Roehl for 2 years, then if they don't have a good regional gig by then you will have enough experience to go pretty much anywhere you want...including to a higher paying company. :biggrin_25525:

It's rare for anyone to get regional without a year or two OTR so don't let it get to you. Keep looking for regional while you are OTR.

If you don't have any kids yet, I'd go with whoever pays the most and "put in my time" and see how things look a year from now.

I cant help you with Crete. But I drove for Roehl and found them to be a very good company. As far as regional and staying close to home that usually comes later on,after you have paid your dues. Roehl is good at getting you home on a regular basis.I dont know how Crete pays, but Roehl uses the practical mile pay scale, which is head and shoulders above the old Household Movers Guide miles.

Take what you read here with a grain of salt on any company. The best bet is just go to a truck stop find some drivers, from the company you are interested in and ask them the good and bad about the company. Most will be up front with you. Not just one but ask 5 or 7 to get a better idea about the company.
