I am currently working as a goverment contractor in Afghanistan and I have reached my wits end with it. I've been trying to figure out who should I work for when I get done with truck driving school. I'm from Houston so there is no shortage in oppertiunities..I also served in the Army for 6 years and I drove fuel tankesr while I was stationed in S. Korea and I loved every minute of it....I have saved a lot of money over here and I was thinking about purchasing my own truck but i was also thinking i need to get my feet wet in this buisness... I was thinking of Applying for Schneider Bulk Division since its based in Houston or Roehl. One of my co-workers said they have a tanker division...How true is that?

Have you thought about delivering gasoline ? You have the experience from the military. You would be home every night & good pay.

go with who you think is the best. i imagine you can do a lot better then those 2. from what i have seen and heard. schneider likes playing hiring games. roehl seem to be decant to there drivers on the flat bed devision. honestly. i think you would do far better by getting a job as a driver in the oilfields with an oil company. you will have more oppitunity for advacement. plus from what i have been hearing. drivers are making 4 to 6 times what an average driver makes.

Roehl is a great place to START. They treat the drivers well, and it feels like a smaller company than it really is. I spent there years there and had few issues. If you drive for them for a year or so, you will have a good foundation to move on to whatever else you want to do in your driving career.

Roehl is dry van and flat bed. No Tanks. They cover mostly east half USA and some west. They have camera's inside some of there trucks monitoring you inside your cab. I had one in my truck. I got in trouble for going 8-10 miles over speed limit going down a mountain and one other time for missing a speed limit sign on some back road around 3:00 am. I caught myself and slowed myself down while going down a mountain and brought it back but rules are the rules. I was doing 55 in a 45 in a 3 block stretch on some highway. I don't dislike Roehl because rules are the rules and just have to comply because they do enforce them. When they told me about this, I responded... Thanks! Better you catching me than a cop :). You are closely by being monitored inside (if you have an inside camera) and some kind a monitoring system outside your cab. They showed me a video of me inside the cab. They have a very hi safety rating and they do take care of there trucks. Roehl really isn't a bad place to drive for. Tankers do pay a lot better. I don't know much about Schneider other than rumors. Find a company that runs close to your home and you will have a better chance in "on time" home time and being home if your truck is being worked on. Good Luck.
