I'm looking to get on with Heartland too. I've read all the negative about every big company, but it looks like there are people doing well there. ChromeDome how do I get a good run like you've had???

It is a dedicated fleet out of Iowa. They have a run that is basically Tampa to Atlanta. They are having a hard time getting drivers on it due to low cpm. I am taking a 9.5 cpm pay cut going onto that fleet from the one in Columbus. Even more off what I would make system, probably 13.5 less than system. But it is supposed to be home weekends. The pay is less due to the miles being close to 2400 per week. Which is high for FL region with the company, and the weekends home.
I am still waiting for a truck though. Been calling all week, none available in FL, and working to get a ride out of area if needed for next week. I cannot afford another week off. This is starting to hurt.

For some area's getting on dedicated is not hard. It really depends on exactly where you live. They have to have good in and out freight on the lane that pays well for salary, or to even set up a mileage dedicated. Where I was before I did a tri-haul. Either Columbus to Buffalo to Carlisle, or Columbus to Buffalo to Flint.
In Atlanta I hear they have a well established dedicated fleet on salary at 875 per week or something. Home every weekend.
FL they don't have allot of that. But they do have this fleet out of IA that I will be trying out if they ever find me a truck. Have to call them in the next couple of hours to set up something for Monday.

What can I expect from Heartland, I've been keeping an eye on them for some time now. Just wondering on the type of runs, from what I can see I'll be running out of the AZ terminal. How are they with idle and does affect the speed on the truck. Thanks

Hope they reciprocate your loyalty Chromedome. My problem with Atlanta was that it was easily the slowest inspection bay. I remember getting in line one morning at 7AM only to wait four and a half hours to finally go through.

I really don't know what contracts they have out that way. California is run separate from most of the rest of he company. System drivers and drivers from all other regions typically do not run west of the Rocky's. So that terminal runs just about everything out that way and I have never run for them west of the Iowa terminal.
I know we have west bound freight that all gets swapped to that fleet once it gets out there, no idea what they have in the way of shippers.

I have heard horror stories about that inspection lane. I know that I have sat all day at Chester waiting to get in for inspection so I could get service. Most of the time I was held over or released, due to lack of time. So I got where I would not go into a terminal unless I absolutely had too. Columbus I would, but most of our freight was night runs. So unless I needed service, if I needed a break I would just take my break instead of waiting in line. Then run out that night.
I think that if they are going to run inspection bays like that they should be open 24 hours a day for inspection and A service, just lowered staffing in the evening and no major repairs. But it seems only drivers and dispatchers ever agree with me on that.

There is a dedicated team run out here in California running out of Fontana to Denver, CO. Would make 3 trips a week, 6000 miles at 46 cpm. Conway load one way and FedEx Freight the other. Sounds good to me, any reason why we shouldn't take it? Besides the fact it's teams and gonna snow a lot. Might get burned out on the run too but seems like good money as long as we can manage the 3 trips per week. I see good and bad about Heartland any info will be appreciated.

You are absolutely right, josainjr!!! Heartland will follow you throughout your life, worst than the plague in Europe, back in the 14th., century. Worst than the
mafia who have paid a contract killer to get rid of you, as a driver. Why I'm I saying this? Because once you are no longer in their graces, they will do whatever it is necessary to make your life a literary living hell. To the point of making sure no employer will hire you after you leave their company. I compare them to the anaconda snake who strangles you little by little, until you are either destroyed professionally, or you are swallowed by their vindictiveness and their poison. Yes, that is the truth about HEARTLAND Express One mean, awful company to work for, even under the best of circumstances. I didn't know how bad they were, until I started driving around with my husband. Management only cares about the bottom line-----At the expense of their drivers. You are only good as long as the last load you delivered. "Their work practices are highly unethical. How have they stayed in business this long? I am willing to do whatever is necessary, and within the confines of what the law allows, to bring them and make them responsible for their actions.

Don't be fooled by them. You are good to them only as your last load. They will ruin your life the moment you no longer serve their needs.

Well said, JosainJ: These people are corrupt to the core. They don't have a conscience. You, as a driver, could be lying on the back of their sleeper, ill to the point of being unable to move. Even under such conditions, they will require that you take the load you have on you, and drive it to the customer. Your family, your health, your vacations, your time off----which they would have already agreed to give you, even your sanity meant and means nothing to them.

As a disabled spouse, having been raped multiple times starting at the age of five and ending at about 16. They knew, because I told them=Jay and Cliff, about the therapy I had to attend still, in order to live with a history of chronic, relentless physical, emotional, and sexual abuse for so many years. I can attest that Heartless Express could care less. They all knew my husband had to be home, at least once per month, on a Friday. Even the big boss(es) Jay and Cliff. Phone #: 800-523-4859 knew our circumstances. I, myself, would get on the phone, and explain to them how crucial it was that my husband be home. None of those things mattered. The needs of the company, I was told, always preceded the needs of the driver. Yes.....They would, on purpose, take my husband in the opposite direction when they knew he was to come home. Even during those times when my husband would be home, he could not rest, because Heartless Express would not stop with their phone calls, wanting to give him a load that he could not possibly do. I call any and every driver out there, to call Heartless Express, and ask for either one of these two people: Jay or Cliff. Ask them if it was not true that I would call them when my husband was to be due home. Ask them if they didn't know-----because I told them, of the importance of having my husband home, once per month, on a Friday. Ask them how many times I pleaded with them to bring my husband home.....And ask them the reasons why he had to be home. They absolutely knew of my past abuse. They knew of my dozens of rapes, my constant physical and mental abuse which lasted more than a decade. They knew of my disability. Yet.......I don't remember them ever, trying to even understand where I came from. All they cared about, was the bottom line. And the bottom line never included my husband. I even sent them official documents to attest to my disability. Nothing ever mattered to these people. And that is why...I call them snakes, or the company of perdition. These people have no souls. Their working practice does NOT involve any shred of moral feeling, for their acts are those of robotic beings. As if they had been created NOT by GOD, but by beings not of this world. They can easily ruin your life, and they often do, as they did to my husband. I will do anything possible within the boundaries of the law, to make them answer for what they do to their drivers. All you have to do, is let me know. I will start this ball rolling. Make no mistake about it.
