Hey Brian... right now we are slip seating but only due to the number of tractors... we have a bunch sitting in EB... I went there last night and dumped a 600,000 mile truck and picked up a new freightliner with 688 miles... we had about a dozen guys pick up new tractors yesterday... I always drove freightliners.... but we've gotten a crapload of new Internationals... and I like them alot better... more comfortable, and I like the setup better... they drive like a dream in my opinion... but so did the freightshaker I picked up... I didn't like the seat... The INT has memory foam and a 3 stage lumbar... FS has neither, plus the sound system is far better sounding in the INT... I run my phone right into the aux. and have my music... plus if the phone rings it answers right on the sound system... I still can't figure out where the mic is though...
Personally... I'm pretty happy... and I don't care what they say about groceries... no matter what happens in the economy people have to eat... so you can't beat the job security... I started in groceries at C&S for Webster.... 94-99... the only reason I left was because I got railroaded by management because when they gave me poo-poo... I gave it back in spades... ya win some and you lose some... but there's always tons of work available.... This is my year to date for 5 months..

The biggest reason I'm looking for the extra money is when I was out of work before here I invented a product for truck drivers and anyone that works what I call 'out in the field jobs'... it's a 12 vdc powered mug that can heat a can of soup in 15 minutes or you can get water to boiling in about 25 minutes... I have a provisional patent filed... but I need to get my full patent and it's a bunch of money... there's nothing out there like it... that's how I got the idea because it was what I was looking for but it didn't exist... so I did the research and created what I would've bought.
It holds 22 oz... so you can heat a can of chunky soup... A decent cheap meal... I built 2 prototypes... one for me and one for promotion... I use mine all the time... love it. If all goes as planned you'll find them in probably two years... that's how long it takes a patent to issue...

hey Brian I work on the newburgh account. we have 3 sleepers all are spoken for and honestly you don't want to run 1. I worked for Webster for 4 years not the same as it was. the chester terminal is 3 times the size it used to be and we pull loads for them. We do a lot of conn and local areas. I am running 2 loads a day averaging about 10 hours a day. make right around $1,110 a week. We slip seat however I have been running same truck for 2 weeks. Newburgh is strictly stop and shop now. no backhauls. If your only doing 1 run a day you'll get the longer runs mostly long island. Any thing else let me know.

Thanks dgarricksr for the come back. I worked there in 99 and they took good care of the guys in the sleepers. Stop and Shop isn't bad until you get to the old Grand Unions built back when 40' was a long trailer, I remember quite a few of those. From what you and Raven have said it looks like the average pay is in line with what the recruiter said and since I started mt driving career running NYC, southeast CT, and northern NJ I know what I am getting into for traffic and attitude. I would have stayed at Webster, the money was good and the job easy enough but I got tired of driving almost 60 miles for a 3pm gate time and find my load was not even pulled yet, wait around for hours before I leave or get sent home because my load was cancelled. The warehouse selectors and trucking dispatch did not communicate very well back then. I also had at least one load a week I had to put back into a door to be reworked, you would get hooked up and hop inside to pull a sticker off the last pallet and it was the wrong stop or not even on your run. I hope those things have been improved in the last 14 years or so.

Hey Brian... we used to say that C&S stood for come and sit.... because we had the same issues in Hatfield in the 90's... I ran PMs and it used to be really aggravating to come in for a noon gate thinking you'll be ahead of rush hour on the island... and it wouldn't come up until 2:30 or 3 and throw you right into the middle of it.... Just got news today from a receiver in Ct that C&S bought the Freetown warehouse, probably the begining of the end for the S&S drivers... but from what I understand... they still worked for an outfit owned by DiSilva... I suspect that JBH really wants to get the job done for C&S so that they can get the transportation for Winn-Dixie... which C&S just bought a month or so ago... with that deal C&S picked up around 700 stores. The nice thing about working for JB is you can relocate and have a job all set...

I know all about come and sit, I also used to deliver for Fox Legde Spring Water, they are a private label bottler that made water for several of C&S customers. If we had the 7 am delivery to Windsor Locks it was great, I would get there at 5:45 and the reciever came in at 6, gave me a door and I was unloaded before the checker came in at 7, he would have me out by 7:15 but any appointment after 7am kept you there for hours, and delivering to Newburgh was 7pm and they didn't let me unload myself I never could get out of there before 11pm. I did a few loads out of Brattleboro and Hatfield, they were always ready for me on time but that was because I was from another terminal I guess. I never hauled out of Bethlehem Pa (maybe Briengsville) but delivered there many times and they were good at getting me in and out.

It is good to hear about Winn Dixie, I never know where I will be in a few years.

I hear ya about a few years... I'd like to checkout some other parts of the country since I've lived in New England all my life except 4 years in the USAF. I have a killer gps program on a nexus 7... so I could find my way anywhere...

Wanting a change is why I came out to New Mexico two years ago, I love it here by my wife and kids want to come back to Pennsylvania to be closer to the rest of their family and I want to settle down and stop changing jobs. I like the idea you can get a change at DCS by changing accounts without the BS of changing companies.

Absolutely.... and they have so many different accounts... not just about long haul anymore... plus I like things like I can go online and know exactly how many hours I have available... how many I get back at midnight... All my payroll info is online... I swore years ago I would never work for JBH... but I've been somewhat impressed...
