That was my problem and it makes sense now. I was clutching braking and revving at the same time because I wasn't slowing soon enough. Ill remember this next time!!!
    thanks for the info!!!

match the rpm needed with the speed and gear.. practice, practice practice.. sometimes its a tap on the brake sometimes a tap on the throttle.. depending on the personality of the truck, speed and road conditions... see if some where between 11 to 1500 rpm works for ya on a down shift

Its something we all have trouble with when we first get in a truck. I cannot speak for other drivers but I always had trouble down shifting when double clutching. When I started floating gears after my cdl test it became a lot easier for me. Probably because it involved less thinking :biggrin_25523:

My method if I miss a downshift (which actually happens less to me than bungled upshifts) is "aim low once and aim high twice and hold on the last". If all else fails, try the next gear down, but only if you're truly slowing down. Sometimes missing a shift can cause you to regain speed.

General rule of thumb is about 250rpms per gear drop so in neutral between gears give it a little fuel till about 250rpms and put it in the lower gear if you have to scratch the gear hold in neutral rev it up until it falls into the next lower gear

It's all a movement while clutch in pull out of gear clutch out rev up 250-300rpms clutch in place in next gear clutch out

Remember to pay attention to your instructors. Their methods could be different enough from what you've already practiced that it will completely mess you up.

If you have time to practice outside of school, practice it the way they teach you.
