Apparently Allied Systems (AAG) has been sold, or they sold themselves, at auction. The winning bidders are 2 hedge funds from Wall Street that were/are primary lien holders. Apparently bankruptcy court must approve the deal on Sept 10, if my info is correct.

Any Allied drivers on the forum here ? What news ?

The funny part is that if you read the whole link to the posted article, Allied tried to sell themselves to the Lien holders earlier and was shot down, also it seems that there was an issue with a company represented by the UAW that had come in and underbid, or made arrangements to take care of the handling dept. at Ford Louisville.

Because of this agreement Allied was forced to pay back 5.3 million in wages, NOW, that Allied has found a way to "sell" themselves to their Lien-holders, (the people on the hook for the money the company owes them) NOW the Teamsters wants the bid to be disallowed so that a bid by Jack Cooper can win the assets.

Last I knew the UAW was the "Union" right?

Union politics makes my head hurt.

The ruling orders that workers who are named in the decision be put back to work, as well as other Teamsters on the seniority list. The company is required to pay back wages and benefits to those workers. However, more Teamsters may win their jobs back if it is determined they are eligible. As of this week, the total back pay would be about $5.3 million plus interest. But that is a conservative estimate since more workers may be found eligible. These figures do not include benefits that will be restored under the order.

National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Administrative Judge Bruce Rosenstein ruled December 21, 2012 that Voith Services, a Ford contractor, conspired with the United Auto Workers (UAW) to replace Teamster-represented Auto Handling workers. The Auto Handling employees performed the yard work (releasing, shuttle and rail loading) at the Ford Louisville Auto assembly plant. Auto Handling is a Jack Cooper subsidiary.
The UAW-represented Voith employees were paid significantly lower wages and benefits compared to the Teamster-represented Auto Handling employees covered by the National Master Automobile Transporters Agreement.

The scheme is spelled out in the judge’s 40-page decision. It explains how Voith, under Ford’s direction, underbid Auto Handling at the plant under a prearranged, substandard contract with the UAW.

I heard ya Hammer, I think the unions must run by the same playbook the Government uses, and neither one works.

IF Allied was in dire straits, which they have been since 2008 as far as I know, did the Teamsters somehow feel as thou pressing the issue and making Allied pay back at least 5.3 million was somehow going to miraculously "help" Allieds bottom line?

It also states that it was against the union contract to sell Allied, what numb-skull at Allied would sign a contract saying that the sale of the company had to be union approved?

I realize that there are a LOT of things that I as small business don't understand ( at least as far as unions are concerned) but it seems that the union in an effort to win back the jobs in the handling dept. may now lose ALL of those jobs.

Because I am sure that if the deal with the creditors goes thru Allied will no longer be a union shop? Maybe one of the Teamster guys will ring in and explain it all, it confuses the hell outta me.

Allied is one of the oldest car hauling companies in the country. The unions have killed another company. Too bad.

I see what you are saying Hammer, but really, it isn't much different than what the Gov. did to the stockholders of GM.

I don't have a dog in this fight and could really care less, but it is interesting, thanks for the info.
