Insurance woes in Canada, Any suggestions?

Enlighten us as to why Ontario is a joke...this will be rich.
Move, Government insurance is available in MB,SK and BC, test the waters there if life is so bad in Ontario.

If you run the US, set up an LLC in a prorate friendly state like Indiana. Insurance costs are 40% +/- what rates are in Canada and your plates are cheaper too.

 

Plates are cheaper?????? I don't care where you buy plates or prorate. You will pay the prorated portion of a plate no matter where you buy it.


To explain it in a simple fashion, if you prorate BC, AB, SK and MB and you prorate your miles 5% BC, 10% AB, 30% SK and 55% MB and the plate costs $3000.00 in each province. You will pay BC $150.00, AB $300.00, SK $900.00 and MB $$1650.00 which totals $3,000.00 Now for taxes, if your truck is worth $100,000.00 BC taxes would be 5% of $8,000.00 (taxed at 8%) = $400.00, AB $000.00 (no taxes) Say SK is 8% also that would be 30% 0f $8,000.00 = $2,400.00 and good old Manitoba at 8% = 55% of 8,000.00 = $4,400.00. THE PRICE OF PLATES IS BASED ON THE WEIGHTS YOU REGISTER FOR. No special deals.

 

Although you're 100% correct, I set up an LLC in Indianapolis a few years ago, pay $3200/year for heavy prorate based out of Ontario for North American coverage, yet that drops to $2600 with the Indiana Co. The reason I was told is that the Canadian jurisdictions levy more tax on a Canadian base plate. I know Quebec alone was a ton cheaper based out of Indiana.

 

That said, I closed the IN shop a couple of years ago as my main accounts want to deal with Canadian carriers. I even learned how to say EH? again too.
