Thank you.. What's the average annual salary there? Does it mainly depend on what route you're given? I've also read that a lot of drivers aren't cut out for hauling mail. How is it so different than hauling general freight?

With mail hauling you have a scheduled departure time and a scheduled arrival time. Holidays dont mean time off they just mean more money in the check because most mail runs go 24/7. We have seen to many drivers with this company who want to "call off" because the weathers not lookin good or its playoff season or they had a party last night. They dont last. The company wants reliable, dependable and on time drivers. You will normally be an extra-board driver starting off and the company knows who answers the phone and says "I WILL" The players who stand up and say " I will" eventually get the meat and potatoes and the "not today" guys get the left overs then complain because they dont get enough work and go back to freight hauling. I cut my teeth driving a pumpkin for 23.5 cents a mile. First 3 years haul mail was 55-60K a year.

Lot of people call this job a hourly job and I say it is a salary job.because they have a set pay for every run doesn't matter you late or early.sometime you get a mail that you are expected to deliver on your way back home but you going to be early on your appointment and you got to way hours to be unload without pay they will tell you that the post office pay such time for this run and that's what you get others than stuff like that it is a good job

True, but 98% of these mail runs are paying hourly based on 50 miles on the odometer. Example a 500 mile run pays 10 hours work even though you can drive it in alot less. They tell me the extra hours is also there to pay you for pre-trip, fueling and post trip. And the local drivers are getting payed on the clock anyway so they are making money sitting in a loading dock. Lucky them. Best advice is look at your gross pay and calculate your earnings based on the miles you drive per paycheck, you may be surprised.

500 mile for 10 hours how much you think you are making per mile.the local guy get on the clock that's what I call a hourly driver we should get pay per mile stop and per diem for sleeping in the truck

Gross pay divided by miles driven comes out to 55 cpm for me. you get per diem when its time to do taxes each year. $59 a day for full day. Thats about an 11G deduction right off the top. You wanna get paid for sleepin in a truck ? LOL, how about 30 minute nap pay also.

You senior drivers got good runs I drove the other day 864 mile round trip paying 17 hrs if I go by your math I get 17.28 hrs

Ok, take those same 864 miles you drove, and say for example you are hauling freight for company X making 34 cpm. you make $293.76. At 40 cpm is goes to $345.60 Assuming of course zero out of route miles. That mail run probable pays you $415.00. And the senior drivers do get the first choice when a run comes open. It took me 4 years to get on a normal work schedule.

Hey,I'm not trying to compare this job to any other,I'm just saying what would be good for drivers and that's my tough.so how many year you got to have to get more than 2 week vacation
