The 2010 we had did not use DEF but there was never a problem. Actually hubby wouldn't have minded keeping the 2010 with 480,000 miles. But they moved him to a 2014.

I was in a 2010 and loved it park smart was great never had a problem out of anything and it pulled like a bat out of @@@@! I ran her wide open 66mph and avg only 6.3mpg but all our trucks seem to have diffrent rearends computer programs, eash one pulls and runs alittle different. think maverick does this to try to find the best combos for performance and mpg but no proof of that. like the one fellow said check it out an make sure has the gearing ya want. also there all dd15 motors and no def system(or I never seen one with def)
bubbanbrenda Thanks this. -
I would like to thank everyone for your responses, and if I haven't gotten on your last nerve yet could a couple of you take the time to explain the ParkSmart System, all I know is what the Bergstrom/ParkSmart web site says, and it all sounds good but I also know they are trying to sell a product, I'm looking for someone with hands-on experience.(more than just playing with it in a dealers parking lot) Thanks again for any responses.

its set up just like the front air on the dash, its just knobs in the bunk one for fan speed and one for temp. to turn it on in the center of the temp knob theres a button to push to turn it on. it dosent run while the truck is running but ya can turn the fan on and it blows air but not like the front. other than thats thats about it, we also have 1500 watt inverters built in, I dont know if they have them in the sale trucks but I would say so since there built in from factory.

also if they offer a 2011 I dont recommend it thats what im in now, dont pull and all kinds of electronic problems. and has def. I know a few other drivers in 2011's and they have alot of problems to.
bubbanbrenda Thanks this. -
The 2011 trucks were really plagued with problems, and I know they had to replace a LOT of the APUs on them under warranty due to factory defects.
The 2012 trucks are much better, but they're just starting to trickle off the fleet so I don't know how many you'll run across. Mine is 12913, which means it was the 13th 2012 model TCD truck to be put into service, and it hasn't even hit 300,000 miles yet, so you might not find many 12's yet.
I know that Maverick is very good about getting things fixed, so you're probably safe with the 2011 models. I'd stay away from any 2010 model that doesn't have DEF because the lawmakers haven't really settled on the new requirements for trucks yet, and if you buy a bunch without DEF and then they decide to remove trucks without DEF off the road, you'll be screwed. Not likely, but definitely possible.
The ParkSmart system is okay for the most part. I have to admit that I personally wouldn't run one on a truck tha I was buying, because it is a battery based system only and can only run a limited amount of time before it runs out of power. Most of the time it has enough to get the driver through a 10 hour break, but much longer and he'll have to get up and idle the truck for at least an hour in order to recharge the system. This sucks on both 34 hour restarts and those days where you're breaking for 14 or 15 hours for whatever reason.
I'd personally prefer a Tripac on there that would charge the batteries automatically. Or, I have a family member who drives for Celadon, and he says that their trucks will start themselves and idle as needed to charge the system without the driver having to do it. Maybe you can look into that, might be cheaper than a full Tripac.
But other than it being a battery based system, it seems to do fine. It's definitely quiet, which is a plus, and the A/C will freeze you out on its highest setting. You can't get any better when it comes to fuel savings, but your drivers would love you a lot if you came up with a way for the system to recharge itself on those long breaksmxpx148 and bubbanbrenda Thank this. -
Thanks again for all your input guys you have been a big help.

1 more question, is there a shore power option on the park smart system for extended periods of down time. For example 34 hr restart?

bubbanbrenda Thanks this.

Thanks again everyone for your input I have found 1 with 380,000 miles on it if the VIN/ECM printout looks good I'll start the wrestling match with the dealer on trade terms.
