Rand Mcnally will never get any of my money again

All GPS's suck.... I have a 500 Rand McNally I use it for finding mileage to truck stops . I also have a Garmin to find Casino's . As far as routing I wouldn't trust either one . I think the Ran Mc is programed by Mormons , it won't bring up casino's even if your sittiing in the parking lot.

 

Rand Mcnally GPS's are crap. I bought one at the Pilot in Laredo and by the time I got to Dallas I had already gotten my money back for it. If you have a smart phone or tablet you should consider CoPilot Truck. It cost about $140 and its available for Android and iOS. I've been using it every since it was released and its hands down, the best truck routing option available. You only pay once and all updates, including maps are free.

 

Does it use data, for stuff other then the live traffic updates?
Also, can you drag and pull the route to customize it, on the mobile version/
If you use it personally, do you notice it getting your phone hott at all from the constant gps use?

Ive been debating on purchasing lifetime updates for my used 510 tnd, or buying copilot app. I like how it says, you can customize your route.

 

Very odd dealings. My husband has the TND 710. We finally bought the update map for it. The 1st time it was updated it was not doing well at all and kept freezing up. This last time seems to be better, but it seems to want to use every route in the book to go from A to B except the one he is supposed to be on. A lot of times I have to look up an address to use to get on a particular cowtrail he is supposed to be routed on and still have to sometimes look up a different place in an area to use the address for some of the towns who still us route numbers or it can't be located. I guess it will never be perfect and they do come in handy. I google the maps for him and let him know where the docks are or whatever, as long as it can be located.

 

As far as I can tell, live traffic, fuel prices, weather and social and web features (Facebook, Wikipedia) is the only things that use data but its such a small amount that its irrelevant anyway. Also, the live traffic is always spot on, a real time saver. I mostly run it on my Samsung Galaxy Note Tablet but haven't experienced any over heating issues when ran on my cell either. As far as route customization, you can drag the map around and pick out waypoints, at least on the Android version.

2.48 cents? for twenty dollars more could of bought a lamenated map book..that would never let you down...

 

there are lots of times where transactions are double billed or whatever. depends on what. but i've had it happend quite a few times in my lifetime. usually a couple of days later one charge is dropped.
