Can someone recommend a company that rents flatbeds? I am switching from my dryvan to flatbed, but I want to rent one before I buy.

    X2...

I have rented several through Hale, and they are great to deal with, stay on top of the maintenance, and have great customer service. I've returned trailers there before the month was up and they pro-rate it. Only thing is it's .05 cents/mile for maintenance/tires, and that DOES add up.

Deposit was one month's rent up front. For a 2007 48'x102" Fontaine spread axle combo we paid $461/month (including taxes) plus the .05 cents/mile.

For a 2012 48'x102" Fontaine Revolution spread axle combo we paid $525/month plus the .05 cents/mile.

I think the rate you pay depends on your credit and the age/type of equipment you rent.

I have found renting a trailer (or borrowing one) is a great way to find the benefits/limitations of a trailer that I might want to purchase. We found the newer Revolution to not really fit our application as well as an older one with the standard pipe spools/stake pockets. The deck on the Revolution actually had too much 'grip', and the cool high-impact extruded rub rails were a bit too sharp for our rubber bungees and wound up cutting them.

Good luck no matter which way you wind up going.

Those are rates I can live with. Some rental companies have quoted me $1400 a month. My credit is good and I think I will do better pulling flatbed than the dryvan I now have. I really appreciate you sharing this with me.

No problem whatsoever; I really hope it works out for you.

I believe in paying it forward.

Hale has been a good deal for us in the past, and I have rented from both the Jacksonville, FL branches and the Allentown, PA branch. I see you're in Cali, but if you wind up going to either one, PM me and I'll let you know who I have dealt with there. Good folks at both of those branches.

Lastly, if you are in Cali and there isn't a Hale trailer near you, I can recommend you filling out the credit application with them and getting approved...then doing a power only move to get out near one of their branches where you can grab the trailer.

I have done that several times in the past.
