in doing a google search. i found this app. it's called be-on-road. i don't see anything as far as a charge goes. so, if anyone has time to kill in downloading this HUGE program. might be worth looking at. it's 7.5 gigs. hope you got a memory card in your phone. or tablet if that's your device.
here is the play store link.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.aponia.bor3.truck&hl=en
if anyone try's it out. reviews please. i'm planning on it when i get some available wifi to use. my verizon plan only allows me 6 gigs every month.

The download went quickly but it took forever to install it and it's 13MB.
Going thru setup the last screen states:
You can activate TRIAL licneses or add license serioal number using "+" button. to buy new license use "Shop" Button below or go to www.beonroad.com
I pressed "+" and new screen appears "Add serial number" comes up for 3 options and the Trial license is assigned: All Maps/navteq + Truck, Czech Republic & Slovak republic + Truck, and All Maps Traffic.
I chose All Maps/Navteq + Truck and the free trial period is 7 days. From that screen I exited HOME, as there is no submenu. I moved the program to my microsd card (16 GB).
My entire Android home screen changed to a weird spacing of applications, looking a little worrisome to me as my phone is solid, not flaky or buggy till I saw this.... so I restarted the phone, that went fine and my Home screen is normal again.
I started the program and got a nag screen about purchasing a license, 7 days remaining on trial. Then it synched and gave a download menu showing all the maps... every state in USA. Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico also available.
I'm thinking "wow" so far, so good. Then I take a close look at the states and each one is many MB's. So I choose my state.... but I already know, now I'm starting to see this is not practical. I will have to download every state and just one state is taking several minutes..... Needed to turn off the battery saver. Several minutes later is still not half way downloaded and I'm thinking I want to throw it out the window. I stopped the download.
I'm not going to say it's not a good program but it's definitely not for me, too time consuming. -
i downloaded the app last night. took 2 seconds to download and about 5 seconds to install. the app is 16 megs.
the maps are 9.1 GIGS.
i just clicked on the app. and it went right to download screen. which is what i'm doing right now. signed up for peelot wifi.
did it mention anything about price???? -
It just says unlimited license. Says nothing about how long or anything else:
USA and Canada $62
USA only $50
Canada only $50 -
yeah, i got that page. and it's provided by navteq.
the updates are free. according to the information provided at time of installing the app itself.
so, if your looking for some truck gps for cheap. that might be an alternative. it says it provides weigh stations and truckstops and all that jazz.
i was digging around that truckers tablet and eventually found the software for that. it comes on a sd card for $60. but it says replacement. meaning, i don't know if any jo could just buy the thing without having purchased the tablet itself.
if it provides colorful graphics. like the picture examples. i might buy it. the plain screen of copilot is starting to get old. -
also found mapfactor. maps are provided by tomtom. 39.95 euro for america. 49.95 euro including canada.
that's $54 and $67.
there is a free edition. guessing for cars. it's 1.5gigs and downloading. see what happens. -
I'm going to try to get be-on-road loaded to my tablet and see how it goes.
I've got two TomToms, as different as night and day. Forest Gump could say it better. My FIAT's "TomTom blue & me" is so bad I'm sending it back for a replacement this week. But the XXL 550 on my motorcycle works flawlessly in all temps.
It's time for Google to step up and put truck restrictions on the NAV gps that comes with cell phones. -
let us know how it works. i'm going to check out the tomtom free. if i ever get the maps downloaded. 136 megs out of 1.5 gigs. so far.
at one point and time. i was using another program. it was also free. and it had landscaping. but it wasn't for trucks. and input the address was a pain. and it didn't seem to have a lot of the addresses i was delivering too. only thing i liked about it. was some landscaping. you know when you were in the mountains and the cities.
i'd be open to both applications. with each one being $50. for the truck license. -
well, i gave up on the be on roads app and maps. signed up for the 7 free days. but couldn't input any address to check it out.
the free navigator looked allright. but required internet.
so i paid and downloaded the tomtom truck gps through the navigator app. gonna do a comparison between tomtom and copilot.
$50 vs. $150 software -
I found an Android app called "Smart Truck Route". It's $79 for 3 years, $45 for 1 year, $19.95 for 1 month. I bought 1 month to try it.
You can try it for free from 1pm to 2pm daily.
My Android runs 2.3 and this is a very tiny app that installed in just a few seconds, is GPS based, accesses Google Maps - my favorite mapmeister.
Defaults are set for a 53' trailer, 13'6" h, 8'6" w, 80K, specifies hazmat or not, route type shortest/quickest/tolls/e. Main display will let you toggle between speed, ETA, time remaining to destination, odometer - so you can only see one of those at a time. Distance remaining, distance to next instruction, and banner tells you what road you're on. Very sparse. My phone already has free Nav (google) installed so now when it starts it offers to use either Nav or "Smart Truck Route". It's not possible to customize a route. If you tap the screen it will offer to take you to that address and then abandon the original route. There is a feature to locate a truck stop but doesn't tell you how far, shows a city, and they are listed in no particular order. It gives turn by turn instruction in case your signal is lost. It did accurately report a nearby low passI emailed support with a couple of questions and got answers quickly.
Pro's: Fast response, small footprint, inexpensive.
Con's: Can't customize route
it's not bad at all for 3 years @$79.Last edited: Oct 5, 2013
