I have been with Heartland for 6 months now. I have 23 years experience in this industries. I get .46cpm with Heartland, I run their OTR system (not regional) I average 2300 to 2400 miles per week, have great insurance. My only complaint is home time. I never know when i will go home. NEVER. I have been told that my home time "walked out the door with my fleet manager", I have had loads taken off me that would have gotten me home and have been told to "deal with it, it's truckin..." I have been miles from my house after being out 3 weeks and still not go home. You can not request home time for a certain weekend with Heartland, they will get you home when their freight will allow it. So if you plan on working for them, make sure that you and your family are prepared to NOT make any plans what so ever around you.

Sitting can happen at any company. Really it depends on the region, the shippers and the account.
I don't do large amounts of grocery freight, so don't sit at warehouses unloading a lot. But we do have some accounts where you will be selected to wait for a pickup due to the account being the most prominent in an area. Like in Michigan, if you get to Detroit in the morning you have a really good chance of having to wait till 0030 to get an auto load. They take the first trucks available in the area to get them, so that the drivers have a full break to run the load.
In the Columbus region we did allot of night runs. Most of the accounts in that area are XOT (exactly on time) runs. That you pick up in the evening and deliver early the next morning. Mostly in the northeast.
Every region is different. So where you are means allot. Heartland is a short to medium length of haul carrier. Most loads are 600 miles or less. Most days I will deliver a load in the morning, then pick up my next load and run some miles off it to deliver the next morning.
Plenty of freight in most regions. So it depends on what you consider sitting. Sitting for 24 hours is not too common. Having to take a longer than normal break to keep your clock right for the next load is common.
We are on e-logs. So learning how to run the most miles every single day is key. I get home every weekend for a restart. So I have no issue at all with working 70 hours in 5-5 1/2 days.
I will run every single mile I possibly can every single day. Some weeks, like this last one it did not work out. Most weeks I do ok. -
im curious about something i filled out an app enough experience no accidents talked to recruiter everything came back good asked for my physical sent it in then was told by the recruiter that safety said i wasnt accepted strange very strange

I have no idea. You would have to see if the recruiter would get you in contact with safety to see if they can figure it out. How is your PSP score? Any warnings, bad inspections or tickets?

Nothing on either like i said all was good until i sent in my physical and then was told by recruiter safety said no check back in 6 months

Once at Heartland I was sitting 100 miles from home on Friday, and they refused to let me go home cause I could only go home with a load and they had no loads going that way.
Also rarely got above 2k miles for the week even though I took everything they offered. Probably cause every other day they force you to take a second 10 hour break cause they have high priority FedEx or Sears load to cover that night. Flip sleep schedule every other day and you're losing production. They don't care though, as long as their high value accounts are covered.tow614 Thanks this. -

As a Gordon drover Reading all these posts is not helping my confidence with the recent buy out. Looks like I better start scouting for a new carrier.

I appreciate this post.. it is an example of why I will be leaving gordon when the heartland transition begins..in my opinion this is a company that has no concern for their drivers.
Not someone I would ever work for.
