Who cares? Yesterday in North Dakota in absolutely flat area one guy went out just because there was "first" lite snow. If driver is negligent even 3 axles and triple lockers wouldn't help him.

I threw out the Alps , because a single axle with a lift is the norm there . Our winter is not as bad as theirs . Hills not as steep ether .

Actually Sdaniel,a single screw is the norm in the Alps.(no lift axle as 2 axle tractors are the norm there)
But i get what you mean.
The 6x2 tractors, those you find mostly in the Scandanavion countries.
With Norway having the snowcovered small mountain roads which you had in mind.
And they get a lot off snow.:yes2557:
    Setup there is steer+drive+lifteble tag.

    sdaniel Thanks this.

Had a bunch of tag axle trucks on Henderson walking beam rears . Henderson you could set the weight ratio , we had ours set at 60/40 , to plant the drives . Loved those trucks in ice.

Just read thru this entire thread... Whew! Thank you all SO MUCH! for documenting your journey for us who are looking into new trucks. I have to say, I am more afraid than ever!!! Toskabg, I can honestly say my heart hurt for you reading about your ordeal.

For the new 680 owners, how much would you say these repairs have cost you out of pocket? And how many days down on average did you spend waiting for repairs?

Can I get your thoughts and opinions for our situation?
My husband and I have a 06', T600 with 1.4 on the original engine (475 ISX) so the time is coming to make some sort of decision. This was our first truck as new O/O (bought it in 09 with 580K for 38K) and I fear it will be like your first dog... Loyal, trustworthy, strong and dependable and then you get your second dog and they just never compare! I feel more afraid about buying a new/used truck now after being successful O/O's then I did when we were just starting out because the used truck market is just flooded with lemons that still have a high truck payment. Also, to make matters and choices worse I'm a sissytrucker, who only drives an automatic. :biggrin_25517: I know, I know....

If we decided to go the new route, we were leaning toward the 680 but now I'm thinking a FL with a DD15 may be the better option. Plus, is it just me or are the FL and KW almost equal in ride/interior quality now? As a team we wear out the warranties so fast and these new trucks don't seem to hold up like the old ones so we would have to make sure we can trade in without being upside down. Maybe the better fuel milage (hopefully) would offset the lower resale issue then with the KWs?

Our truck is starting to be more costly in repairs and the fuel milage is beginning to slip, down to 6.3mpg. We also will lose out on not only miles/increase milage pay being unable to run CA but this would mean we would be in the the mountains a lot more in the winter with our company, something I'm not looking forward to.

    Any thoughts and advice? :biggrin_25519:

If you ready for a new truck go and order one. New UltraShiftPlus gearboxes are good. Same are ISX15.

Globetrotter, why rule out Peterbilt and Volvo?

If you are doing such mileage,i would look into the tag 6x2 option.
Keeps the weight down, better for fuel.

    But Globetrotter,i have a question.
What torque does your engine have?(should be able to find it in the papers or on the tag on the engine)

    sdaniel Thanks this.

I have had some annoying small issues, but nothing serious. Basically all of them was recall or adjusting problem. My downtime was two hours, the rest was scheduled, while I was off.
After 6 months and 60,000 miles I did not regret the purchase.
