A bill under review at the Ohio statehouse would ban trucks from using the far left lane on certain highways.

I'd say this is another BS law concerned more about getting revenue...
Up74427ca Thanks this. -
Yeah they are out there at the statehouse thinking about how to get more revenue from truckers, new law, more dot cops, more state trooper nd more revenue for the state.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
If you don't want trucks in the left lane then trucks should get a tax rebate/refund for not using the left lane.
All those left lane restrictions do is INCREASE traffic jams, most of the time trucks are passing thru these cities and towns. Keep trucks in the middle and rights lanes just increase the risks of accidents with traffic entering and exiting.
If Ohio is concerned with Safety they need to enforce their law for cutting off trucks. They'd create more revenue focusing on that aspect of Safety.windsmith and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
Then you have this...

"It would mandate that large vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds stay in the two right-hand lanes on stretches of highway with three or more lanes in the same direction."
California been that way for years
You get the 2 right lanes
That should be enough for anyone -
I think that the safety issue they're trying to address is when a truck in the far left lane moves right, while a vehicle in the far right lane moves left. Both converge on the same lane at the same time, not seeing each other.
What really needs to happen is that metropolitan areas with this sort of risk should have one or two 'through' lanes on the left, separated from the 'local' travel lanes and blocked off so that exiting and entering traffic can only enter or exit them at 10 mile intervals.NavigatorWife and 'olhand Thank this. -

compare that to Richmond VA, where you get in the left lane and are out of town in the blink of an eye
but left lane restrictions keep more people slowing down in the right two lanes, or it keeps big trucks in the middle lane (see i95 in CT) -
Yall can flame all you want---BUT--the left lane restrictions started years ago--and now that the Buckeye has raised their speed limit--sorry--its OUR own fault--In an age of governed trucks--most now UNDER the posted speed limit--Drivers DO NOT care that they have just pulled into the left lane at 66(in 70zone)and are now backing up traffic--No different than VA posting no vehicle in left lane under 65/70(depending on the location)
Look at what happens EVERY DAY on a regular 2lane interstate when MR 64--just has to pull out into traffic to pass Mr 63--in the blink of an eye you have a major jam w/4wheelers going out of their minds
I've heard ALL(most-LOL)of the excuses trying to justify this but they dont cut it with me...
While you may feel slighted--it is a HAZARD--and doesnt do much for our public image.......
So while many of y'all MAY see this as a money grab--I still see it as a SAFETY issue....
And if you think it bothers YOU--think about how those of us who CAN more than run the speed limit--and rarely hold ANYBODY up--who are NOW forced to ride in the center lane w/all the trucks that can only run 60 or so--who as soon as the left lane is restricted--pull right into the middle(now effectively the TRUCk passing lane--and ride there for the rest of the day--
Ill say it again--we have done this to OURSELVESDL550CAT, EZX1100, Ice Queen and 1 other person Thank this.
