when i find that my computer isn't running right. i go for the wipe and reload method. always fixes the problem. and only takes 15 minutes to do.

it's not uncommon for me to do a wipe every 6 months. but i do a lot of downloading. such as roms for my phone or tablet and what not.

i don't do windows updates. they bog the system down. i wait for service packs. those work much better. i like my machine running like a GRAPE APE. boot up and ready to work. right off the bat.

the last time i did a wipe and all the updates. it was 5 minutes from bootable to workable. UNACCEPTABLE. so i stopped doing windows updates.

i've never used those other programs. you can have a fresh installation with nothing installed yet. and they'll find something wrong. as if they know how windows is suppoed to be. better then windows itself.

windows isn't perfect. and every time you install or uninstall a program. it has a tendency to effect windows files.

like others have mentioned. you've got some crap in the system.

and the MSCONFIG thing. is a very good tool that comes with windows. unless your running 8. i didn't have it accessible when i tried it. but that was the early release candidate. before being finalized and publicly release

8.1 is out. I have not updated my Win 8 machine yet, but I find once you find the program like that, pin it to the taskbar. Control Panel is one I use a lot and I pinned it also.

It's basically a Linux server. Secure access from wherever, and has a USB port for expansion drives if need be.

yep, i saw that. released yesterday i think it was.

i usually buy all the new ones. but i'm passing on 8. i'll wait till 9. and if it works the same way. then i'll decide to either stick with 7 or learn to use the new pos style

when i buy em. i buy the oem system builders. they are full blown installs for the same price as the retail upgrades. $100. i never buy the upgrades.

I just upgraded to 8.1. They put back system tools that were in 7. As for browsers, I've been using Chrome. It's never let me down, and i can access my saved links from my PC on my phone.

I don't know what a Cray is. But the computer is a Dell, and the user is quite obviously senile. . .:biggrin_2557::biggrin_25523: (Now let me push the button to open up the cup holder for my coffee. . .):biggrin_2552:
