Good Luck to you Krash! I encourage you to take good notes during your orientation, and to read your Drivers Handbook before you head out with your trainer. Life at Swift will be so much better for you if you do those 2 things.

A penny a year until the limit, if company.

    If L/O - O/O, I don't know.
    Maybe through prayer?

I just finished truck school at WPTS in Modesto two days ago and while I can't say Swift was my first choice it looks like I will be going to their orientation on Monday. I suspect that unless things go horribly wrong I have a job next week. I have a couple of questions on how to make the most money for my time. I want to work smart. These questions are still forming in my mind and I'm having a bit of overload from reading all these threads. I think I need to watch some Family Guy or something trivial for a moment.

drive smart, run as hard as you can, dont take too many extra breaks. Utilize your time, dont stop at a truck stop every 2 hours for something to drink and eat, keep food prepped to minimize downtime to eat meals. If you get a load lets say at 1400 today and its 400 miles and delivers tomorrow at 1200 then drive straight through and call to see if you can deliver early, if not then at least you can shut down close to the destination and have a full set of hours for the next day instead of waiting to drive in the morning to deliver and then have to shut down for lack of hours that can be used on a new load.

As I think of stuff I will post for you, im sure moose, mystic or dp might give some insights too since they are not new to the rodeo and make decent money.

Wolf, I think my idea of 'driving smart' is a bit different than yours.
And while I make decent money - compared to any other job I've had in my life - I could make even more if I used your method.

My idea of running smart is to utilize your time to your own best advantage. (probably exactly the same as you, in concept)
The difference is, we are different people, with different needs.

I'm sure we could have an entire thread about how to run, how to eat like you want to in the limited time available, whether it's best to run your hours out and do a 34 or spread them out to avoid a 34, always trying to deliver early...

Personally, I am lazy. I don't want to have to work any more than necessary.
On the other hand I'll do exactly what is necessary, to get the job that I've committed to, done correctly.

But, I like to pace myself so that I don't have to take a 34. Which means not running the most possible miles in any given day, but spreading them out to get a good average.

I also prefer to time my days to let me get to my sleep break early enough to find parking at a truck stop that has what I want - namely, decent coffee when I wake up.
And I also make due time for the breaks I'll need during the driving day.

And, I like some time at the end of the day to relax. At least a few hours, before I have to sleep enough for the next day.
That is the time I spend with y'all - shooting the breeze here on the forum.
Watching a TV show or a movie, cooking a decent meal, getting a shower, doing laundry.

Personally, I can't do it in 10. It takes at least 12.

very true moose, there are days I like to take some extra time as well, its indeed hard to get much done with just a 10hour break but sometimes I eat something, shower then watch a 40min show and off to bed.

Today is one of those days im taking some extra personal time, got a trailer in Oakland and delivers tomorrow by 1700 in Northridge, I decided to stop 290 miles away with 2 hours left on my 14 to get some extra time to myself and then go to bed at a decent hour to get my schedule back on track for the morning. This gives me time to watch a couple shows and a movie I have been patiently waiting on the past couple days.
