That's general figure I use. I run a day cab and I'm not paid by the barrel. So I know what you mean by getting all you can on the trailer if your making commission by barrel. I used to have a chart that showed the weight of a barrel at the gravity from 10 to 90 gravity. But that was 13 yrs ago.
My new Apple app for gauging tanks hits the App Store today

for the truck and trailer combination I drove, 140 plus gravity at 60 degrees temperature, always kept me just under 80,000. Every ten degrees changes gravity by 1 point. so if I had 45 gravity, at a temp of 90, then it was 140 plus 42, means 182 barrels was legal. 145 barrels would be over weight. No app needed.
Now when we went to the 8axle combos, had to find the new rule of thumb...
But I can also see where some people would find the app useful, and rely on it too much... just like they do a gps... they think a computer can never be wrong.Rockdoctor Thanks this. -
I'm impressed! I think that would definitely be useful. If nothing else it would help me remember the bbls per inch of all the different size tanks....sheesh. Unfortunately for me I slip seat different trucks/trailers almost everyday and our level monitors are never calibrated properly. Most of the trailer gauges are Garnett and some are off by almost 10 bbls!! Luckily I haul mostly condensate which is 60+ gravity so it is nearly impossible for me to be overweight unless I overfill my tanker 8-}

I've been getting some good feedback on the app. I have also received about 11 requests for an Android version too. Still looking for features to add and feedback.
Thanks! -
The Tank Gauge app has received quite a bit of downloads, more than I anticipated. I've received some good feedback to on how to improve it so if you gave me feedback thank you.
1) Most complain I do not have an Android version available. I'm considering adding one as all the drivers at our company will soon be issued an Android device.
2) I limited the ranges of tanks from 200B to 1000B and this was a mistake. I have received some who need to gauge 50B and 100B tanks. These complaints seem to be mostly coming out of PA so I guess they have a lot of smaller tanks there.
3) A small number have complained that you can't enter a temperature with the gravity when calculating the weight to haul.
Also wanted to mention I have been using an app called Glympse in conjunction with the driver who slip seats my truck. The app allows you to send up to 4 hours of map tracking to anyone you choose and the app also provides them an estimated ETA for your destination. It has helped us coordinate when we exchange the truck so one of us isn't sitting at the truck stop for half an hour waiting for the truck to arrive. I've heard some future models of automobiles are looking to incorporate Glympse into the autos so I see big things happening for this app. -
I will be starting a crude hauling job next week after 23 years OTR. Hope to download your app and give it a spin. I know nothing about this industry so any help will make my transition easier.

I wish I had that app when I was doing crude hauling in ND. BUT there are other tests that have to be done with crude so it's cool to have the gauge app but one still has to climb 20 feet and walk that #### catwalk and open the tanks and do your tests

Do you have an android version of this app?
