No, I had actually left Marten over a year prior to my post. I can't speak to what is going on there now. But, since entering the industry in 1995, I know of not one company that allows company drivers to pick and choose their loads. If something changed since June 2011, I would love to hear about it.

A 17 year Veteran Marten Driver turned in his truck and said good by to marten, because the miles had dropped way off for him.

I love the way others presume to know things about me, having never even met me.

I began driving for CR England (which I often refer to as "Crash-n-Roll Express") on December 6, 1995, my original CDL having been issued two weeks earlier. I've worked for Werner, Apex Bulk Commodities, T and L Leasing (Dart Int'l), PDM Express, Marten Transport, Schneider, and Transport America (the carrier that put me in a wheelchair), in that order. I stopped driving on April 6, 2011 after a serious work injury to my wrists and left leg. On June 22, 2014, I was required to involuntarily surrender my CDL by a DMV clerk in Oak Creek, WI, who did not like that I had to wear a brace on my left leg to walk, and had to use a wheelchair when not wearing the brace (despite the doctors having no issue with that).

At no time have I ever worked behind the desk, or as a recruiter, for ANY carrier.

I can only relay to others information based upon my own experiences, or those of whom I personally know and trust (and have confirmed what they've told me). While I have my own issues with Marten (and other carriers), I'm not going to lie. Lying takes too much effort, far more than just being honest, and right now I'd rather devote all my energies into relearning how to walk again (which, btw, is going better than the docs predicted). I don't know if I'll ever be able to return to driving (none of my family or friends support that), or even to the workforce in general right now. That's the consequence I pay for allowing a carrier to bully me into driving a rig I suspected strongly was unsafe.

If you had bothered to read anything else I've posted, you would know that. I don't sugar-coat my experiences, nor do I badmouth carriers I may have my own differences with. Lying takes far more effort than I am willing to expend, effort I would rather put into trying to either get my CDL back or trying to get into some other line of work, all of which requires I focus on walking again.

I worked for Marten for 1 1/2 the only good thing about that company is the wal-mart accounts... I struggled to pay my bills on running regional $500-600-700 dollar pay checks 1 good pay check of $1100... then they put me running wal-mart it was a consistent 1100-1300 weekly I made a killing and enjoyed every minute of it.... then when I would get tired after 3 months of running hard never would do a restart just kept running my recap so no breaks in between.... they screwed up my home time EVERY SINGLE TIME they would get me home a day late then expect me to come out after 3 days being home... they only allow 4 days at the house NO MORE.... I had it out with my dispatcher plenty running regular regional it got to the point where he didn't want to deal with me yelling at him so he stuck me on walmart and I loved it there so I didn't care.... so right before my 1 year was up I called my dispatcher and I was nice to him about it I told him I needed another truck my truck had been in the shop the entire week.. I get it out don't even make it 5 miles up the road and it breaks down on me again... so they send me to Mondovi to get another truck I get all the way up there to find my truck that they are putting me in is junk, sounded worse than my current rig and smelled like a cigarette... I quit smoking 2 years ago and don't want to go back nor do I want to smell that crap.... so I call my dispatcher and tell him I didn't want the truck... he said you mean to tell me I worked this hard to get you up there and you don't want the truck he then accused me of refusing another truck in West Memphis at there terminal there.... (I've still never to this day have seen that yard) so I told him how disrespectful it was to slap me in the face with a crap truck after I run the way I do and I told him that I've never seen the truck he was talking about..... I ended up talking to the mechanic there he told me he couldn't do anything for me that it was Jay Webber's place to put me in another truck.... so asked if Jay was there he said he's at lunch he will be back later... so I went to go talk to Randy Marten he wasn't in that day then I drove back to the shop and Jay was there.... LOL..... I told him for a driver that stays out 3-4 months at a time and your going to treat me like that is bs he basically told me he didn't care what I had to say and he didn't want to hear it... I told him just forget it.... and I walked out to my truck and called my dispatcher and told him to send me by my house that I was cleaning my truck out and I'd drive it up to Desoto.... he told me he would work on it and then the mechanic and Jay walk up to my truck and Jay tells me he can have me a truck Monday if I wanted it I told him let me think about it over the weekend because after what he just said to me really irritated me he said ok and they both walk off about 45 minutes later (after I talked to my dispatcher and told him to run me over the weekend I'd have a decision for him Monday) the mechanic walks out to my truck and asked me to park on the street in front of the shop because they were closing up soon and he didn't want me to be stuck in the back and I couldn't get out or to a restroom... so I did then he comes out with a steering wheel lock and tries to lock my truck up to where I can't drive it and I told him no I was running over the weekend and he said he was told to hold me til Monday there so I call my dispatcher and get him to not put the lock on my truck... to finish this off here I ended up taking a brand-new truck and everything was ok... then I go back to running walmart... they continue to mess up my home time I got tired of the disrespect and the lack of care towards my home time expecially when I run the way I do..... when you get a trailer wash out it takes them a hour or better to get you a express code to pay the people I got tired of that I called my dispatch 32 times trying to get a code and no one would answer the phone... you have to fight them for your 20 dollar detention pay (after you have been there a while at first they will do it for you every time your detained) "I'll check in to that" is the response you will get.... I wouldn't recommend going dedicated to Martens wal-mart accounts either out of 4 stops you get paid for 3 they claim 20 dollars a stop HAHA not for dedicated drivers it's only 15 dollars a stop for them... and I was on a sliding scale they are on a set pay 38 cpm is max for them... my max pay was under 150 miles is a set pay I think it's 80 dollars for them it was like 110 for me being regional.... needless to say I don't work for them anymore they don't like it when you post the truth about them online I'll never go back and don't recommend them to anyone they don't care about the driver if you want to know more about them just send me a message I have so much more on them....
