Need a dispatcher

Part of being an owner/operator is running your own business. If you wanted to be a company driver, you should have hired on somewhere. I'm not trying to be rude, just literal. Don't leave it to someone else to determine your own success.

 

Sounds like you'd be better off leasing on to someone.

 

Sounds like you jumped, both feet and pocket book, right in, something we've all thought of and hauling cars has a big advantage over freight: "When you going to get here?" "Oh, Wednesday or Thursday, all depends." "Okay, fine." Or at least so I've been told, that delivery is more 'best effort' rather than critical. Compare, 'Deliver 0700-0700', meaning 7 am appointment and don't miss it!

Do you have some preferred lanes in mind? I saw a guy delivering at the Wal-Mart in my small town of Spencer, Indiana, earlier this year. Pulled into the parking lot to watch, didn't go over to talk. Then bumped into him at the TA west of Denver where I needed a trailer lube, brake drum and pads and he had a front right drum shatter. (Wasn't that fun, eh!)

We ####-chatted and took awhile, but finally I realized this was the guy back home in Indiana! He runs a triangle from his home in Michigan to the NW and from the NW into Texas, then back home to Michigan. He had a full on set up, I forget how many cars/pickups he could get on. 8-10, I think. No sleeper. Paid only $15K for the tractor and trailer. Sounded like he was making money, too. Long time trucker and, if need be, capable of doing his own maintenance. His first time doing cars, though.

Turns out he actually delivered two vehicles for the farmer here in Spencer. The delivery I saw was the first and then he did a second a few weeks later. I asked if he'd had any damage claims. 'Oh, yeah'. Told how he pulled the wrong lever and the top of a van crunched. Oops! Another where he tore a mirror off another car. Got cheap replacement from a junk yard.

I'll PM you some information from car haulers I met as soon as I come across it. The guy I met in Spencer and then at the TA west of Denver said I could lease on with him if I wanted to try car hauling. Somewhere around here I should have his info. His insurance policy, as I recall, was only $100K, though, but he wasn't asking much in the way of per cent. "Just be honest with me." he said.

Somewhere I have another guy's card who was doing just what you're launching. I have info from him, too, but not at my finger tips. The outfit he leased through took a higher per cent but he was very satisfied with them.

 

WHERE r u looking to run to? What areas, how far willing to travel?

 

Both of these guys get their own loads off load boards.

One runs under someone else's authority; the other has his own authority.

Both were new to car hauling and very positive about it.

 

As I am VP/Office manager of a car hauling business. Started earlier this year, and we are doing fairly well with our business. As I am looking for other haulers to dispatch, just wondering, what exactly you are looking for in regards to your travel routes?
We are out of PA and run, basically from PA to AR, TN, but go where the money is without losing money in fuel. Run usually starts on Monday usually home Thursday or Friday. But now it is winter, will be staying out longer.
