I think that I misread the original post. I thought that this was a single piece that weighed 55,000 pounds. If you can break down the load where the weight is legal, then you won't be able to permit it. If the total weight is 55,000 pounds, you will need 2 trucks. I would just get a couple of flats and be done with it. Most flats can accommodate from 45-48,000 pounds.

tough to get a good deal on trucking out of northern IL, I was unclear is the load going to Kansas or South Carolina ? I'd suggest hiring someone who actually owns trucks and not a broker because you will be in a pickle if the trucks don't show up and you are paying a rigging crew to wait.

Ok, we aren't going to start this. I'm not going to stand for another thread closing because of a bicker fest about broker vs O/O.

The unit weighs apx. 55k and you are breaking it down. So that makes it a divisible ld. Max weight for that is 80k gross. Easy 2 trks. schedule for the same day and time pick up.
Tell them they have to del at a certain time also. Any delays and they are fined.
Going through a broker or trucking company is going to be the same deal. Just let them know that the pick up time is set in stone and if late they get fined...
