whats a good gps unit to have

Don't forget about the Cobra truck GPS's.

 

I second the dezl560 Lmt and double second the checking of routes. Last week my great 560 sent me down the wrong way on a one-way street in the city of Portland, Oregon.......LoL ! My bad! I should have been watching the signs rather than listening to the GPS !

However, in my defense, her English accent was so sweet that I just couldn't resist.

 

Yup, you can't blindly rely on any of the GPS's for directions.
My RM520 has some strange ideas about routing as well.

 

That's part of everything else, along with PC Miler, Copilot, all the various phone & tablet apps, etc.

 

You don't rely on any GPS, truck specific or not. Most are derived from the same Navteq software and modified. I think Tomtom is the only one with unique poorer software. They all have mistakes. That said any GPS will do if you get in the good habit of using all resources for trip planning. Any GPS routing can be modified via waypoints once you recognize a problem. Any driver that punches buttons and goes will eventually run into a problem. Always use you map and call the customer along with your GPS and you have a good plan created. I'm not a fan of big screens and bright lights in the cab. It affects your night vision. I'd rather have a small screen.

I have the Nuvi50LM in my car and it does a sufficient job. I paid $200 when it first come out and they are half that now. They are cool because you can download custom vehicles and voices. Garmin versus Magellan I like the Magellan better.

What are they on sale for?

 

i havent checked any of the gps's at walmart, but I would assume that none of them are made for truck use. like someone said before, unless it SAYS truck use on it somewhere, don't waste your money on it. if you arent sure, go to a truckstop (most are for our use), look at what they have there, and the models listed above, and then go to walmart and see if they carry any of them

and honestly, for just $109 I would be quite skeptical on what kind of gps I was getting for that price... you get what you pay for

 

Now I don't know 'for sure' but I was TOLD that GPS's were for sissies. ....................... Anyone else hear that?
