It's a bit lonely, a bit tough, a bit of a challenge - and you sound way too smart to be a truck driver.
You can do it.
But I'd pay for the training rather than hit the both of the barrel first.
So, here goes: the dream begins...??

So, yeah, we/she gets it. -
Unfortunately, I cannot pay for the training, unless TWC comes thru with a bulk backpayment soon. -
Put it on a credit card

I think u need to slow down! As a former school bus driver myself, get some experience with bus 1st before you go signing up for at least a year with a company. There are student loans as well. U don't have any idea what you about to get into with a company sponsored training. I'd personally pay or get loan, grants to get your training. That means a longer training time from 8-24 weeks.
If you come from retail background...you are used to getting and providing customer service. Trucking...there is none of that. Things happen and that's the way it is. If u stuck with the school bus, you'll see eventually how transportation industry works. Heck a lot of people can get the cdl. Its another thing working and living the lifestyle. If u go to a company for training, you'll just sign up for the longest year of your life cause your income will suck cause they offering u training. If u leave before your contract is up, you pay top price for that training they gave u! Pay for it if you serious is my advise.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Retail ain't as easy as you think it is: yes, I provided exceptional customer service (and I am d4mn good at it), but the company I worked for did not appreciate their people, nor did they stick to their professed "care for the employee"--it was "things happen and that's the way it is", just like you said. So I'm used to that.Last edited: Nov 27, 2013

Go on the road with one of these company's that will pay your cdl do your time and go local. Botta bing botta boom. Heck I first hired on with Burlington motor carriers in 94. Did 4 weeks with a trainer. 4 weeks on my own quit took a 5dollar an hour driving job so I could look for something local and took about a week but found one never looked back. Got out after 6 years then back in a few years ago. Had to start over but that's trucking.
