I've noticed most newer trucks with a weed burner also seem to carry a heavy DEF or exhaust odor when operated with a trailer on. Have not noticed such with stacks or with low exhaust exiting the side of the vehicle. Possibly it's just me, but I suspect the area between the rear wall of the cab and the nose of the trailer is an aerodynamic low pressure zone which could draw exhaust discharged beneath the vehicle upwards into this space, which incidentally also often has cabin vents present.

Personally I think that a high exhaust puts the fumes up and into the wind rather than keeping them low and near or beneath the cabs or other truck windows. I'd only spec a side exit low exhaust or a vertical stack on my own equipment. As to water intrusion, rain caps have been around forever ;-)

the exhause does smell. and trucks WILL idle in the summer.

the exhaust hits the ground. and disperses to all angles. so my neighbors on both sides get to breathe the crap.

i, have to have my heater or a/c on recirculate to not breathe the crap. when i'm sitting, idling.

and when you drive around in the dirt. they can really kick up some dust.

and last note. the hot exhaust also rasies the temps of the rear ends. those babies will redline. climbing phoenix to flagstaff.

i think weed burners sucks. and if they're getting to be more installed. your all going to love them when they're idling.

This is what happens when you have a college educated engineer designing things that has a severe lack of common sense.

You are a rare exception. Drive thru a truck stop and compare with the other trucks.

Almost 60 trucks since DPF and no problem with the chrome on any. Maybe the others need to clean them more often.

Really sucks to be parked next to one when the weathers nice and you would like to leave your window down, stupid things ruin that for ya.

I was told it's because the system can throw sparks when regenerating and they are pointed at the ground to prevent cargo fires.
They dont smell any worse than an old truck with exhaust leaks spewing diesel fumes everywhere. My truck doesnt even smell of diesel fumes when I idle. Plus I dont have to smoke tarp anything!!!
