On my first job after getting my CDL, the truck i was driving had low power steering fluid. The owner of the company just told me to put regular motor oil in it. I no longer work for that company, and the truck im in is getting low on power steering, so I am wondering if there is power steering fluid for CMV's specifically, or can I use any kind of power steering fluid, or regular motor oil good?

pull the stick to what is in it now, then look at sticker on tank.
-
Ya, just put motor oil in there.
It won't damage anything.
Right.
Did you ever think to read the owners manual for the truck to see what it actually needs?
Or read the sticker that is usually there specifying what to use?77smartin Thanks this. -
I could not find the owners manual for the truck, and there were no labels stating what kind of ps fluid should be put in
-
Then pull in to a TA shop and ask, 'what kind of fluid do I need?'
They will probably do it for free, just to get you to buy a quart of the correct fluid. -
It's not rocket science, after all.
-
DO NOT USE MOTOR OIL.
The oil needs a specific type of additives in it which won't damage the seals in the system.
Use transmission fluid, Dex IV would be acceptable to use. -
mine is full of Rotella T 15-40 . I have been running it that way for years
zep1218 Thanks this.
