On my first job after getting my CDL, the truck i was driving had low power steering fluid. The owner of the company just told me to put regular motor oil in it. I no longer work for that company, and the truck im in is getting low on power steering, so I am wondering if there is power steering fluid for CMV's specifically, or can I use any kind of power steering fluid, or regular motor oil good?

Depends on the make and model of the truck some use, dex3 some use dex4 some use univis, some use auto trans fluid and some just use regular 10 to 30 weight oil

Ya, just put motor oil in there.
    It won't damage anything.
    Right.

Did you ever think to read the owners manual for the truck to see what it actually needs?
Or read the sticker that is usually there specifying what to use?

I could not find the owners manual for the truck, and there were no labels stating what kind of ps fluid should be put in

Then pull in to a TA shop and ask, 'what kind of fluid do I need?'
They will probably do it for free, just to get you to buy a quart of the correct fluid.

    DO NOT USE MOTOR OIL.

The oil needs a specific type of additives in it which won't damage the seals in the system.

Use transmission fluid, Dex IV would be acceptable to use.
