I don't care who wants to take my rights away, or what the excuse is, I'm not giving them up.

Cameras in truck isn't government conspiracy, and yes maybe insurance companies want them, but too bad, we have right to privacy.

So I guess landlord of apartment building can install CCTV cameras in every apartment cause the building has fire insurance? Even with nothing to hide, I still say #### that.

As stated before, I run my own dash cam pointing forward because too many four-wheelers love to play games, cut off, break check, etc. But I'm not going to have someone else with a camera, esp with it pointing into the cab lol. Its where I live, so #### off.

You all need to wake up and face reality. The BMI is going to come into play soon someday. They don't want a driver who is on the verge of a massive heart attack, and kill a family of 4 going down the road. They have already passed the law of talking on your phone while driving, next it will be trying to light up your cigarette while driving? Or maybe even taking a drink of water, who knows? Look, I'm a driver too, I just choose not to smoke.

I work for a company that does have a camera facing the driver, I think all companies will go to this n the near future. Remember when we didn't have GPS? Now everyone has it! Remember the days when we actually called dispatch? Anything the insurance companies can do, to show the driver was not at fault, will be in the trucks one day. If that means showing a driver wasn't on his phone, or tailgating, it will happen.

I'm all for cameras facing drivers. Every day I'm on the road I see other truckers playing on their phones. Yesterday I was coming into Sacramento and I passed a Vitex Inc truck #307 and that dumb mother ###### was playing on his phone. He was all over the road. I'm all for anything that's going to help make the roads safer.

Amen brother! It's not always the four wheelers fault! We need to police ourselves, and do whatever we can to make our roads safer!!

Having a camera facing the driver would get abused. I've heard of drivers getting fired cause he was drinking something while driving, which they deemed unsafe. Do you really want to live in that type of fear, that you have to pull over if your thirsty?

Just imagine how they would spin it on your DAC report, with "unsafe driving habits", which company is going to hire you now?

Besides, isn't it already against the law to text and drive, or hold your phone while driving? Something like $2,750 fine + loss of CDL?

If every company in the trucking industry puts cameras facing the driver, then its time for me to retire.

Progressive Insurance has that little dongle that plugs into the OBDII port of your car, and it records acceleration braking events, and they evaluate your "safety-ness" based on the number of hard acceleration and hard brake events it racks up in the month you have it.

I drove a 2001 F150 Lightning at the time; my wife, a 2009 Fusion. During the eval period, she had WAY more hard brake events than I did!! :biggrin_2551: Chapped her hide, too! Although, one of my "hard brake" events was when I hit about 120 on the tollway and lifted... :biggrin_25523:

It's still cut-and-dried: the evidence of the front camera is enough. The yawn is incidental, and unless it caused you to fall forward off the seat onto the accelerator and get stuck there while the car was changing lanes dangerously close to you, it would have nothing to do with the other car hitting you. Plus, company lawyers would make sure that cab footage disappeared before discovery.

Now, if your head was lolled back and you were snoring like a frieght train, with a nice line of drool soaking your sleeve, when the event happened, you would get a visit from the company enforcers, because that's not a good thing. Or, of you were texting on your phone or yanking your crank, then you'd likely get fired immediately.

I have no idea what the company would do if the cab camera caught you having an orgy in your sleeper...
