I do work here at Decker but I am not Damage control, I do this just to see what is being said about us, its called knowing your customer and good business. If you go back and look at all my posts of which there is not that many by the way, One thing I have done is try to help drivers even if they dont work for us or are looking to work for someone else. I will speak and tell the truth, some guys just dont like the truth, and Elie I do belive what i said to you was good luck and I hope the next company works out better for you. I will stick up for my company becuause in my opinion we do a really good job, are we perfect no!!!! by reading the web and talking to other drivers eveybody gets out of a company what they put into it. You are not going to be a fit for every company, you guys were not here that is not saying you wont have better luck with the next.

In order to know about Decker you would have to actually drive for them. In some ways Decker is better than most outfits. In other ways Decker is worse. It is a needle in a haystack to find that right outfit that fits you. But now be honest about it. What type of a driver were you? How did you treat the equipment? Did you and your dispatcher come to terms? Which terminal were you out of? (YES IT DOES MATTER)

Okay Derwood which 2 policies was it?

LMAO!!! Sorry, must have missed this!!! Me? Decker recruiting? HAHA! Damage control? LOL! I have driven for them, my point of view and opinions come from a drivers perspective. You really have know idea what you are talking about.
Thanks elie, I haven't laughed so hard in years!

As with most drivers that come on this board and slam companies there is always another side to their story that interestingly always gets left out.

Find a smaller more established company. I did. Its the best way to go.

I have absolutely no reason not to believe this guys story....because that is basically the same way I was let go.

Just a small difference: I had an issue with the front end of the truck...shake violently. I had it put in the shop for nearly 8 hours in Fort Dodge (while I sat in the drivers lounge)---maintenance called the lounge and told me the truck was fixed.

Got in, grabbed an empty for drop/hook in Storm Lake. Pull out and truck shakes violently. Tell dispatch, they say pick up the load, deliver to Kansas, and we will get you back so they (shop) can fix it properly. So I did. Truck goes in for a second time. Another 8 hours later, same exact thing happens. I am furious (16 hours of my free time so far, and nothing has changed).
So I QuallCom Don Decker himself...explain what is going on, and remind him that a "front end" situation is nothing to sneeze at...and it is HIS name on the truck, and if something bad happens (mechanical failure) and I end up killing someone because of it, HE is the one that will be getting sued.
He told me to deliver the load, and he himself will make sure the shop does their job properly when I get back...and asks if it would be o.k. to leave the truck in Fort Dodge over the weekend to assure proper work is done and time is ample for said work. I said "no problem...I have a personal vehicle at the terminal".
    This was on a Thursday.
On Friday; a UPS truck shows up at my house, with the belongings out of my truck (minus my load locks). I was like "what the hell?"
Well---I called Safety, and asked what was going on...and mentioned if I was getting a different truck I could have moved the stuff into the truck when I got back to the terminal Monday.
Safety said (and I quote) "We were just hoping we can handle this as adults, and go our separate ways".
To which I replied " Adults? You had a UPS driver let me go? Are you serious?"

I never did get an honest answer (or even a lie) out of Decker why I was let go (after a year and a half of service by the way)---but could only speculate that Don Decker took my advice as a threat to a law suit, and instead of taking care of the issue with the truck...he took care of the issue with the driver.

I liked Decker a lot...I would most likely be there to this day, had this not happened.
I can honestly say the only thing I DID NOT care for, was the bi-weekly pay schedule (but that is a minor, personal issue).
I had it made there....ran flatbed in spring, summer, and fall....and swung doors on a reefer in the cold winter months.
But for the owner himself to pull that crap---yes, turns out; this is a heartless, ridiculous company.

I thought I spoke of this experience before on this site...but I couldn't find it; and people deserve to know.

So tell me derwood....are we as drivers supposed to just accept this practice, or slam it on a public forum?
If you're going to let a driver go....have some balls and do it yourself....don't have a complete stranger in brown shorts do your dirty work for you.

    Good day.
    I said good day

    Pinkratjr and Anon42890 Thank this.

A rant on the QC (which others in the company can read) to the owner of a company will get you fired most times. You wouldn't be driving one of my trucks tomorrow. Did you go to the service manager first? The fleet manager? The Safety dept? gThe operations manager? The people the owner puts in place for drivers to go to in such situations. Nobody wants a hot head driving their trucks. Now, I don't know you and I am not pointing fingers but I can see how your reactions could have easily got you fired.

    Who are you with now?

Yes it will...and obviously it did.
Why? Got a big head? Fact is I was trying to save the owner from a possible law suit had the front end of HIS truck that HIS mechanics weren't fixing failed. It wasn't a hot-headed rant, it was an informative, helpful, piece of information that he obviously wasn't privy to.
Yes...I went to the Maintenance Supervisor, my Supervisor, and Safety. No I didn't go to the freaking lunch lady.
I wasn't coming off as a "hot head" when speaking with anyone, or Quallcomm'n Don Decker...so that has nothing to do with it. I was 'furious' inside.
Fair enough...but how about have the balls to can me in person? Would you send a UPS driver to do it? Did you miss that part? They obviously had no intention of calling me, had I not called them. Their actions are (to me) no different than a driver abandoning a truck...a death sentence on our end.
I answered that recently in another thread....go find it. If you're asking me for a 'name'...not going to happen---I have never used a current employers name on a public forum, and never will. That's just me though.
