If we have a group here we can count on when something like Southern Refrigerated refusing to help bring its driver's body home to his family, we can do things.
Don't know how this turns out for Pj. We can refuse to continue accepting shabby treatment of truck drivers, especially OTR drivers, especially new drivers where 99% leave within six months and the OTR firms have a business model based on that turnover. A new, higher standard for hiring, recruiting and dealing with drivers is called for.
Who better than truck drivers to call for it? We can stomp our feet without marching anywhere. We can protest by email, by contacting the media who will let the public know. If we agree not to take situations like Pj's lightly, the Internet and our cell phones are our closest allies. And if some of our number want to go Washington when there are relevant hearings, or their State House, that can be done, too.
During the recall, we had coverage from the LA Times but it wasn't supportive, didn't think we could win. The turning point was the US Civil Rights Commission took up our cause and held a public hearing. I was one of a number of speakers.
They stayed to be sure the election was fair. At City Hall, the night we won, the head of the panel walked by as I sat, quietly, resolutely as others jumped up and down and said, "We all celebrate differently, don't we?" as he patted my shoulder. It was too good to get up and jump about. I relished it inside.
Navajo Express has just abandoned this trainee in a tiny town 1500 miles from home!

Bottom line is Navajo does not care and you won't hear back from them either. They treated that night as just another night. You don't think you're the only trainee that got left stranded do you?Bet a lot of trainees at this company went thru the same thing you are now only they just kept quiet and found another company.Hell you could be dieing but have to wait till the morning before someone can help because the night dispatch has better things to do.Thats how companies act towards drivers, they have better things to do.Its sad your carreer turned out to be a rocky start and glad you're not letting this stop you from pursueing it.
JustPj and Lux Prometheus Thank this. -
And a clarification: I did speak with Darren, thought I was calling George, from Channel 9 News. I was confused. So I need to call the Denver Post, haven't made contact with them. I'll ask for George. I asked Darren for George, Darren never heard of George. -
Most newsrooms will be pretty quiet today, swing back to life tomorrow morning. EST time here, three hour difference from you and Seattle. The way this web site works (TTR) drivers have time in the morning and evening, spotty opportunities during the day.
Folks have been stepping up to the plate like I've never seen before, pattyj, The Challenger, luvtotruck, TruckDuo and others. At present we don't have emails for Digby Sr or Jr, but we do have Maureen's extension. Whatever Pj wants to ask for I'm fine with it.
Will Navajo step up? Don't really care. I care much more about messages to media, ATA, TCA, facebook, twitter and whoever else we can think of to point out Navajo's black eye and shame. Will the public respond? Dunno. We can keep on working.
Shame!! Outrageous.JustPj and Lux Prometheus Thank this. -

I can't seem to get a definitive answer from Jan from Tacoma, confirming tomorrows pickup. I've asked for one. As the minutes tick by, I'm getting a bit more nervous. And she had contacted me from my post on the Seattle area Craigslist. Trying to get home via ads on this ad forum may be questionable, but it IS a viable option. After all, people have been putting personal ads like mine in newspapers for decades. I gamble, and I see the odds here for disappearing without a trace because I accepted a ride from a stranger as pretty low.
One has to picture the totality of my circumstances. I have no transportation, too much baggage, a tiny town with few resources, and the high today is 17. I am not looking for more sympathy-I do appreciate everybody's thoughts and prayers--but you really have to weigh all the factors here. I will keep y'all posted on the ride situation.
I am still trying to get caught up with all the posts! But please don't stop them from coming...they are all truly appreciated! -
I think Navajo will step up and try to fix this. Just don't know what they can do at this point.
PJ will be at home by the time they respond. She got her money put on the card. Navajo will apologize to her.
What else would you like them to do ?
1. Fire the trainer & VP ?
2. Come up with a procedure to follow if this happens again.
3. Re-Train their trainers
4. CEO make a public apology ?
5. Offer to Re-Hire PJ ?
Or maybe all of the above ?
One thing we haven't talked about is how this is another prime example of how hard it is for a woman to break into this industry. PJ has a good story the media will just love. Recently divorced educated women starting her life over by trying to become a trucker, only to be kicked out of the truck in freezing weather hundreds of miles from home.
Most trucking owners are not media savy. Navajos CEO could make mistakes like the CEO of BP did during the Gulf Oil Spill. Navajo has no idea how if this were to blow up....it could put them out of business. Their customers could come under pressure to dump Navajo.JustPj, The Challenger and Lux Prometheus Thank this.
