70 mph speeds in Illinois a couple of weeks away
The New Year in Illinois will bring a change in how fast truckers and others can travel on certain roadways. Effective Wednesday, Jan. 1, the speed limit can be raised from 65 mph to 70 mph on rural four-lane highways and most portions of the Illinois Tollway. However, the Illinois DOT says all the signs reflecting the change on affected roadways won’t be posted until mid-month.

How many 62 mph trucks will still hang in the left lane for 2 to 3 miles trying to pass other 62 mph trucks?

Maybe they should drop it back to 55 then. Then everyone can complain about people speeding.

Maybe they should drive 55 in the left lane and complain about getting passed on the right.
They sure love to drive 55 through small towns with 30 mph posted speed limits, in parking lots and through 45 mph construction zones.

I always wonder about these speed limit increases. Do the troopers still give out tickets to drivers going 70 in the 65 (soon to be changed) zone up until the day before? Could you imagine getting a speeding ticket going 5 mph over the posted on December 31? I know the troopers can, but in reality I wonder if they actually do.

If you came to an intersection with 4 way stop and you knew that it was soon going to be changed to a 2 way with the road you were on not having to stop would you run the stop sign? I don't see why they wouldn't enforce whatever limit is in place at the time.

I feel old. Seems like it was only a few years ago it was 55mph only for trucks in IL...

oh wait, it has only been a couple years! I guess I'm not as "salty" as I thought I was.

If the sign posted states 65 how could anyone assume that the speed limit was raised to 70? If the sign says 65 who would argue that it's 70?

It's been a long time since anyone has gotten a ticket or even a 2nd glance for only going 5 over the limit.

The way most drive you could swear it was 70 anyway. I know when I do 60 on that toll way where the speed limit is 55 it feels like you are going to get run over. You bump it up to 65 and you still getting passed by cars and trucks like it's nothing. I can't go no faster then that so I just watch my mirrors and brace for the impact and yes that probably is me in the 2nd lane.
