Well again hauling a reefer or pulling a box. Most warehouses are not located in the burbs, but usually in bad neighborhoods. Due to the property value being cheap. Heck you will find some of the trucking companies that pull doubles in those same neighborhoods. You also may have to pull in and out of some tight spot at a truck stop. Maybe when you got in the hole it was pretty easy but do to those who have parked around you. It can make it a living hell and good luck waking them up and them moving.

I pull reefer. I always drop and hook, but I still have to deliver to the stops. Hardest thing isn't backing up, but walking from door 100 to the receiving door at door 1 in the elements. I'm currently recovering from frost bite that I got trying to crawl under a trailer to raise the landing gear and I didn't put any gloves on. The yard jokey's put the trailers two close. I still after crawling back from under the trailer had to wait for a yard jokey to pull it out because it was not enough room even to turn the landing gear. I'm only 38 been driving since I was 21 and my knee's don't take a liken to that. I still had to wait almost 30 minutes or more to flag down a yard jokey to do so. This was 3 weeks ago and I still have numbness in 2 of my fingers. Yes I should of known just by looking and should of put on gloves, but I guess I had a brain fart. Just wanted to pick up my trailer and get out of there. It was about 0 but the wind chills took it down to the negatives.

But truly sir these companies will tell you anything, and I hope your wife has a place to stay while you are in training for 6 to 8 weeks after you get your cdl. Actually from the recent post about people wanting to drive a truck but it has to be automatic. Your post doesn't come as a surprise. Since some have a lot of preconceived notions about trucking and truck drivers. I too had some rude awakening's when I entered this industry as well. I thought you could just drive until you tired get a nap and do it again. I wasn't aware of log books. Apt times. Or how nasty other truck drivers could be. I always looked up to them, and wanted to be just like them when I grew up, but that's what happens when I guess you watch to many movies. I also wanted to ride with a pet monkey like on the movies but I don't think they are allowed. Anyway like I said if you spend the scratch for a cdl. Just know the trucking industry is not like burger king. "HAVE IT YOUR WAY" It's more like "THEIR WAY OR THE HIGHWAY"

Dennis, I know your not lazy. Ask as many questions as you would like. A lot of on here will do our best to answer it.

You will always have a few people who think your question is dumb or whatever. Ignore their post. Don't engage in a debate. That will only escalate things and before you know it, your off topic.

I really don't pay much attention to some on here but have learned a great deal about the trucking industry on here from people like you and really appreciate your time to help out a newbie.

Don't think there's a company 100% drop and hook, although it would be nice. Some of the websites says how much of a percentage is drp and hk.Unless maybe you find a dedicated job where all you do is go to DCS like Walmart,Target ect.Drop loaded then pick up a loaded or empty trailer.Schneider has an account with walmart.

Thanks Patty, that's what I was talking about, maybe a big part of drop and hook, I asked about 100 percent because I thought I read somewhere someone said that was all they did. I thought some people may prefer this and some prefer other things like warehouse delivery or what ever.

I don't think Walmart DC would'nt be too bad of a gig. They're huge and mostly easy backing. But not every walmart, guard might tell you to drop it in a tight row. You'll find them at every walmart. But if you plan on going otr then plan on sitting a lot as well. Many warehouses can be very challenging even to get into to drop the trl. You'll be thinking you're going thru an obstacle course.

Wrong question. You are looking for dedicated routes available within any given company that happen to be all drop and hook.

No such thing as a company pulling dry 53 s without some live loads er unloads. Silly question.
