Yes now on-duty or driving will start the 8 & 14 hr clock!
So if you started either of those at 10:00 then your original 14 ends at midnight if you have 8 hrs (or more) count over the number of hrs you have in the sleeper from midnight.
So if you had 8 then your 14 hr now ends the followin morning at 8:00 am.
Driving time from 10:00 am to 8:00 am cant total more than 11 hrs. Dont forget u gotta take that 30 min brk! Now at 8:00 am (or before) you take a 2 hr break and then go to the end of the 8 hr break and count over 14 & thats what time ypur 14 ends and drivin time from the end of the 8 until the 14 hr mrk cant total more than 11 hrs.

    Sorry i thought u said 10:00 am.
Remeber if u really want a live scenario of ur day make sure u include if you had on-duty prior to the driving and start from your last full 10 hr break
But if you started at 10:00 pm your original 14 would end at 12:00 pm the following day, if you get 8 hrs sleep then you would count over 8 hrs from noon which makes the 14 now end at 8:00 pm.
Driving time from 10:00 pm to 8:00 pm cant total more than 11 hrs. Once u get a minimum of a 2 hr brk you go to the end of the 8 hr SLEEPER brk and count over 14 hrs, thats your new 14 hr mark. Driving time from the end of the 8 until the new mark cant total more than 11 hrs of driving.

Basically split breaking is pushing your 14 hr "mark" out. Always remember if my last brk was 2 the next must be 8 in the sleeper!!
If you take this logic it makes it simple
If you are coming off a
2 hr brk: go to the end of your previous 8 or 10 hr brk, count over 14
8 hr brk: go to the end of your previous 2 hr brk or longer and count over 22 (14+8=22)
If you had 8.15, count over 22.15
    And so on.
Driving time in between the the 8&2 or 2&8 should be deducted fro 11 and the answer is how many hrs you have available to drive with the 14 hr marks. Make the 2 hr brk your(30) min brk so u knock out two rules at once :)

Actually the way u said it was perfect.
You likely got a 2 hr brk at the customer??
Either way you still had u until 8:00 that night and driving time total was 8 so u still had 3 more hrs to drive assuming u r in compliance with the 30 min brk/8 hr rule!
Just want u to know and all drivers u can split brk all year without taking a full 10 hr brk. I know u would get a 10 but point is u sont have to take a full 10. When split breaking unless u want ur full. 8,11 & 14 hrs to be available

I have a question. Im relatively new to trucking. So i ran out on my 70 I have 1 hour left so can i start driving at 11pm and then have my recap hours show up at midnight? Will they just add on to my current clock? Or do i have to wait until midnight to beging driving? Im not sure if that makes any sense....

Your hours that come on at midnight add to the available you have now. You cannot drive over the 11 or 14 period though and are limited to the new add hours.

We'd need to know when you stopped driving. If you have a qualifying break in before midnight you may be able to run.

That wouldn't be too surprising. Seems like more and more people in the industry know less and less about how the HOS work. But at least he's asking questions, that's step #1 in learning.

If you currently have 1 hr remaining on your 70 hour rule then you have that available to work (driving and on-duty total until midnight (home terminal time zone)
If you have 3 hours remaining on you 14 hour rule then youhave 3 hours to work that 1 hour.
If you wait until 11:00 pm to start your next workshift you are correct,
At midnight "if you gain anything" it will be gained at midnight an you can continue to work.
If on elogs your 70 hr rule will show at midnight how many hours you have available for that day on your 70 hr rule
